Department Overview

PG&E's gas distribution system is the second largest in the country, extending approximately 48,000 miles. In addition, PG&E manages 6,700 miles of gas transmission pipeline, operates 9 compressor stations, and has 3 gas storage facilities.

The Corrosion Field Support group is part of Corrosion Engineering within the Gas Engineering organization and responsible for providing technical field support to the maintenance and operations departments who operate PG&E's natural gas transmission and distribution pipeline systems. Corrosion Field Support oversees the investigation and mitigation of issues dealing with internal corrosion, external corrosion, alternating current interference, direct current interference, pipeline coating systems and more. This includes reviewing the design of cathodic protection systems and other capital investment projects related to distribution and transmission pipeline corrosion prevention and monitoring throughout PG&E's service territory. Corrosion Field support Personnel also act as a liaison for the field providing necessary feedback and input to Corrosion Program Engineering on company standards, procedures, and processes related to corrosion control for transmission and distribution pipelines. The goal of the Corrosion Field Support team is to support employees in the field who have responsibilities related to the corrosion control program to help ensure asset integrity, compliance, and a high level of competency and understanding for the tasks being performed.

Position Summary

The Corrosion Program Manager is responsible for managing program effectiveness, scope, schedule and budget for two or more Corrosion Engineering programs including AC Interference, DC Interference, Cathodic Protection, Atmospheric Corrosion, Casings, Internal Corrosion, Close Interval Surveys, Coupon Test Stations and/or Investigations. This position also manages from five to more than sixty projects depending on scope and complexity, for gas transmission and/or distribution, using project management tools and methodologies from inception to closeout, required to maintain PG&E's pipelines in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations "Requirements for Corrosion Control." The Corrosion Program Manager manages multiple contracts and contractor relationships. The Corrosion Program Manager promotes public and personal safety across PG&E's service territory and will contribute toward Gas Safety Excellence goals by improving safety, reliability and affordability for one or more asset families and one or more life cycles.

The Corrosion Engineering Department is headquartered in San Ramon, CA but the headquarter location is flexible.

15% travel time in work schedule within PG&E's service territory is required, primarily to attend meetings and project sites.

Location is flexible within the PG&E Service Territory, please note hiring leader will make final decision of what are appropriate headquarters for the role based on business need.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum:$122,000

Bay Area Maximum:$194,000

OR

California Minimum:$116,000

California Maximum: $184,000

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs.

Job Responsibilities

Lead multiple complex programs and projects with typical values <$100M. Programs may be new requiring development of processes and subsequent process management and/or process improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities include:

  • Program Financial Planning and Management: Establishes and maintains program charters, develops program schedules and budgets, and generates yearly forecasts in support of annual budget process. Provides regular updates to ensure budget is managed within and across programs and within capital vs. expense categories.
  • Program Reporting and Metrics: Establishes metrics and key performance indicators to measure the success of the assigned programs. Provides monthly and annual reports of progress, metrics, and financial variance reports, to key stakeholders.
  • Program Work Process Management: Manages the assigned programs, including development of program scope, planning and forecasting of the work in yearly increments a minimum of one and more years ahead of executed work and managing to the established schedule. Monitors progress of work to ensure program goals of unit cost and # of projects are established and then met. Develops and implements process improvement plans to address negative variances to schedule and unit cost metrics. Works closely with project managers, engineers, construction, supply chain and others to eliminate any work barriers
  • Program Contractor Management: Oversees program-related contracts from request for proposal through contract award through contractor management during and after project completion against established scope and executed contract terms
  • Project Management: Directly manages scope/schedule/budget for multiple complex projects including regular status updates, extensive risk management, issue resolution - initiation, planning, executing, controlling and closing of projects

Qualifications-

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA/BS from accredited college or university or equivalent experience
  • 7 years of professional experience in portfolio/program/project management including demonstrated financial management expertise across multiple projects
  • Valid California Driver's License by report date

Desired Qualifications:

Certifications:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
  • Process management/improvement certification (e.g. LSS Green or Black Belt)

Experience:

  • 2 years supervisory experience
  • Process management/improvement experience
  • Work experience and knowledge related to natural gas transmission or natural gas distribution
  • Corrosion protection experience
  • Experience managing capital or expense budgets
  • Experience with SAP (Business Objects knowledge a plus)

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with audiences from leadership to construction field forces on financial, work performance, and related risk management and issue resolution
