Description

The Montgomery County Planning Department is seeking an organized, detail-oriented, and creative individual who demonstrates excellent interpersonal and time management skills. We are especially interested in a self-starter who wants to help shape and organize two divisions in the Planning Department: the Countywide Planning and Policy Division and the Research and Strategic Projects Division.

The selected candidate will have excellent communication skills and the ability to work well under pressure. Candidates should be experienced and demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint) and Adobe Acrobat Pro (including Adobe Sign). Experience with document management systems is a plus.


Examples of Important Duties

  • Provide administrative support to the Countywide Planning and Policy and Research and Strategic Projects Divisions and executive level administrative support to the Chiefs of both divisions.
  • General administrative duties include managing the division and Chief's calendar, processing reimbursements, organizing meetings, finalizing documents, creating, and maintaining spreadsheets to track budget expenditures and other data, and uploading documents to ePlans (a specialized planning software).
  • Edit technical documents, including master plans, staff reports to the Planning Board and other technical reports.
  • Collect, synthesize, and analyze data. Provide recommendations for inclusion in technical documents.
  • Compile documents for and coordinate posting of staff reports for the Planning Board. Provide final quality control review for typos, formatting, etc. Use Adobe to combine files and circulate for signature using AdobeSign.
  • Monitor division email accounts and the Planning Board's correspondence monitoring application (CTRACK) and forward emails or respond as appropriate.
  • Responsible for the communications, reimbursements, and creation of materials.
  • Generate and process human resources (HR) documents for the Division's job opportunities and performance evaluations. Track the appropriate timelines and ensure timely and successful completion of all Division HR documents and protocols, assist with recruitment and timesheet administration.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management, Finance, Business or any related field.
2. One (1) year of experience in human resource management, finance or any other related area of business administration.
3. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total 5 years.

Experience or skills in the following areas are desirable:

  • Seven years of progressively responsible experience
  • High level of organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Pro (including Adobe Sign) and Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint
  • Experience managing the administrative functions of a team

The salary range listed above represents the earning potential for this position. Salary is commensurate with experience. This position is eligible for a sign-on bonus (external candidates only).
