Title: Structural Engineer
Location: Pascagoula, MS

Position Overview:

The Structural Engineer is responsible for performing engineering design and calculations to support the Functional Hull Design group while overseeing the manufacture, construction, and installation of structural and outfitting items. The Structural Engineer reports directly to the Engineering Hull Lead.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

The following statements describe the general responsibilities and level of work to be performed and should not be considered exhaustive:

  • Prepare structural designs and calculations, including scantling designs, structural items, and foundation analysis for the Functional Hull Design group.
  • Review the technical content and quality of structural deliverables to ensure compliance with contract and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical and engineering guidance as needed.
  • Offer technical support to the Production Design group within the Engineering Department.
  • Ensure schedule compliance as a team member.
  • Attend and support meetings with customers, regulatory agencies, and other departments.
  • Maintain compliance with project specifications/contracts, regulatory requirements, and standard practices.
  • Obtain and review vendor information and technical data as required.

Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

The ideal candidate:

  • Is proactive and resourceful, recommending solutions and providing direction when needed.
  • Possesses a solid understanding of all phases of marine vessel design and construction.
  • Has experience in:
    • Structural Design: Scantling design, arrangement, and repair.
    • Outfitting: Foundation design and analysis.
  • Excels in a team environment and can meet strict deadlines.
  • Is experienced in interacting with production personnel, cross-functional design teams, customer representatives, and equipment manufacturers.
  • Can communicate effectively and maintain strong working relationships with employees, customers, and subcontractors at all levels.
  • Has a strong working knowledge of maritime regulatory authorities (e.g., ABS, DNV, NAVSEA, MIL, USCG, IMO, MSC).
  • Is proficient in software tools such as AutoCAD, FEMAP, NAVIS, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Experience and Training:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or a related technical discipline is required.
  • Experience Levels: 5 to 10 years of experience.
