Job Description

The Manager, Facilities- Operations is responsible for facility management supporting R&D lab operations, delivering exceptional service, problem solving, optimizing efficiencies, budget management and cost containment, vendor management and collaboration with Fac-Ops counterparts, Research staff and other stakeholders.

The Site Manager for the Seattle Facilities Operations will be responsible for managing one or more key operations functions, facilities, lab instrumentation, or lab services. This position will oversee facilities staff, lab operations manager, or lab services technicians in addition to contract technicians. This position will develop service contract strategies and budgets to ensure efficient and effective operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Strategic planning, management and daily oversight of Seattle Site Facilities Operations and personnel.
  • Member of Seattle Site Leadership Team and main POC/Representative for Corporate/Global Facilities Team/ Liaises withexternal stakeholders (Landlord,Fed/State/local agencies, and utilities).
  • Manages complete functional budget inclusive of service contracts, repairs and maintenance, parts and consumables, and on-site instrumentation contractors.
  • Manages Fac-Ops OPEX & CAPEX Budgets and assures cost containment, efficiencies and spending is within approved budget scope.
  • Responsible for overall site management of the EHSS, permits and reporting requirements in compliance with Federal, State, and local laws and regulations and Vertex policies.
  • Oversees Lab Operations, Lab Services, Site Services and Security staff.
  • Develops a comprehensive service strategy and service level agreements in collaboration with scientific department representatives and system owners.
  • Analyzes and negotiates service contracts in collaboration with scientific departments and strategic sourcing.
  • Manages asset inventory database and service system; ensures accuracy, develops, and reports key analytics, communicates overall program status based key metrics.
  • Manages staff to ensure prioritization and efficiency in service operations.
  • Performs lab and office space planning with CAFM software systems, design lab space and lab instrumentation layouts per specific laboratories.
  • Ensures documentation of maintenance activities and record keeping is accurate and in accordance with Global Fac-Ops requirements.
  • As a people manager within the organization, may have financial accountabilities and human resource responsibilities for assigned staff.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline, or Facilities Management Certificate, or equivalent
  • Five years of experience in Life Sciences/ Pharmaceuticals Industry or the equivalent combination of education and experience, with a minimum of 5 years being in a leadership position.
  • Three years of supervisory/management experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, operate materials movement equipment (carts, dolly's, pallet jacks,). Requires standing, kneeling, sitting to perform work.

Required Knowledge/Skills

  • Ability to communicate across the organization to drive lab operations service program success.
  • Knowledgeable of a variety of facility operations, mechanical, electrical, plumbing HVAC and facility monitoring systems. Ability to troubleshoot and correct initial problems.
  • Ability to assess issues with high critical thinking, sound judgment, and the ability to adapt to changes in priorities or the work environment.
  • Familiarity with EHSS regulations, programs, and policies to assure health, safety, and compliance, and foster an environment that promotes safe work practices.
  • Familiarity and knowledge of a variety of lab equipment including HPLC systems, liquid handling systems, lab automation, centrifuges, evaporation systems, chromatography equipment, mass spectrometers, NMR, plate readers, incubators, washers and dispensers, refrigerators, and freezers.
  • Project management experience/ Leading New Construction/ Tenant Improvement Projects
  • Proven experience managing technicians, contract staff, and vendors.
  • MS Office competency

Pay Range:

$117,600 - $176,400

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
