Job Summary: The Customs Compliance Manager is responsible for execution of customs classifications, Customs Auditing, Customs Paperwork, and subject matter expert in import regulations.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Use advanced knowledge of the HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule) classification manual and exercise discretion and sound judgment to properly assign HTS classification to products for all divisions for countries to be compliant by each country's laws.
  • Partner with operating divisions to maintain the correct HTS in all Order management Systems and to review new season items components to ensure the most cost-effective HTS.
  • Maintain internal IFI (Interim Footwear Invoice) database and PAD by assigning HTS classification and ensuring each IFI sheet accuracy and compliance for US customs importation.
  • Develop and oversee Audit process for all shipment file documents, including but not limited to wire transfers, PO's, invoices, and customs paperwork, to ensure accuracy and Customs compliance for all divisions.
  • Communicate with brokers regarding customs documents and classification. Provide broker required information for customs entry.
  • Research and be the subject matter expert on Customs Regulations and Free Trade Agreements and their requirements for our applicable goods and applicable countries from which we source the goods and ensure we implement them compliantly.
  • Manage Genesco's first cost factory onboarding, file collection and archiving, factory evaluations, and periodic reviews.
  • Maintain Genesco's C-TPAT program with US Customs including items such as the annual security review, factory validations, and third-party / factory C-TPAT compliance
  • Oversee Drawback process, validate accuracy and compliance of completed files, submit completed files to the broker
  • Communicate with brokers regarding drawback documents and submissions and process refunds as received
  • Update and maintain customs manuals for US and Canada.
  • Back Up for review of all brokerage packets for accuracy of information submitted to Customs for compliance and follow-up / resolve discrepancies with the appropriate parties.
  • Backup for creation of all international customs clearance documentation.
  • Have a mind-set towards process improvement and cost savings.
  • Serve as a back-up to other customs compliance functions.
  • Perform departmental administrative tasks as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Five years experience in related field desired
  • College Degree Required, Masters Degree Preferred.
  • Knowledge in U.S. and Canada Harmonized Tariff Schedule and Incoterms
  • Current knowledge of international trade practices
  • Demonstrated research and follow-up skills required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in and contribute to a high-performance team environment.
  • Performs to a high-level of accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to understand priorities and expedite work as necessary.
  • Ability to deal with all internal associates and external business contacts while conveying a positive, service-oriented attitude.
