Overview

Daifuku Intralogistics America is seeking an engineer with material handling experience to join our new product R&D team. This member will be pivotal in designing innovative conveyor and sortation material handling solutions.



Responsibilities

The Product Development Engineer develops new products for conveyor systems and applications.

    Conceives, designs, develops and engineers new conveyor fabricated products that add value and meet customer needs
  • Performs engineering calculations to ensure a robust design, including horsepower, stress, torque, deflection, torsion, overhung load, sortation rate, cycle rate, air consumption, and amperage draw
  • Ensures that new products are safe, reliable and easy to maintain
  • Selects appropriate and cost-effective purchased products
  • Analyzes data to identify trends in usage, cost, performance, and reliability
  • Develops and executes test plans for concepts and prototypes to establish operational parameters
  • Uses modeling and simulation tools to prove or disprove designs
  • Partners with the design team, manufacturing, quality control, purchasing and administration


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Development, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the material handling industry
  • Experience in conveyor systems with carton handling and/or pallet handing
  • Experience with Motor Driven Roller (MDR), sortation technologies, installation, project management, electrical, or EPDM administration highly desirable
  • Strong knowledge of design and development of conveyor-related products
  • Knowledge of conveyor equipment individually and on a system level
  • Knowledge of competitors' products
  • Knowledge of plastics, metals, alloys, and chemistry
  • Knowledge of design cost, budgets, and expenditures
  • Ability to use Excel to sort large data tables and create calculation tables and PowerPoint to create visual explanations
  • Proficient with MS Office, 3D SolidWorks, EPDM and simulation modules
  • Strong organization skills to meet project plans and deadlines
  • Collaborative and team-oriented
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills
