Essential Job Functions |
The
Facility Maintenance Technician-Mechanical Trades (Electrical focus) will keep proper operation of the electrical systems and components in each residence hall by:
- Conducting repair, maintenance, and new installation of electrical systems, including outlets, switches, lamps, ballast replacement, and breakers.
- Diagnosing malfunctioning electrical systems, equipment, and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown.
- Inspecting electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair and to ensure compliance with electrical codes.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position |
- Knowledge and ability to run and maintain wire conduit and raceway.
- Knowledge of electrical systems and repair of appliances, air handlers, and roof motors.
- Ability to take the lead on electrical work is required.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Electrical License.
- Experience in commercial and residential electrical systems.
- Minimum of 2 years of job related commercial electrical experience
- Experience with computer spread sheets.
- Experience with training staff in electrical work and safety.

Work Schedule/Hours |
7:00am-4:00pm Monday through Friday, will also be required to work move in weekend each year. This position is subject to being called in for emergencies at any time. Will also be included in an after hour emergency call back rotation. |

Physical Demands of Position |
Heavy lifting in excess of 50-100 pounds, pushing, pulling, kneeing, extensive walking and working on ladders and scaffolding. Work environment will include dust, dirt and light fumes; must be able to wear a respirator.

Knowledge-Technical: Routinely and consistently performs widely varying and broad, functionally diverse facility maintenance assignments requiring in-depth analysis and problem solving regarding the most complex, non-routine building systems, using advanced skills related to assigned trade area. Serves as a technical expert within the work unit. Guides, directs and coaches others regarding application and interpretation of technical issues. Applies and interprets technical knowledge to resolve unique or highly complex situations. Analyzes and researches appropriate solutions. Has a thorough and extensive understanding of programs, concepts and practices in the most complex mechanical systems trades' area as well as a general understanding of one or more different trades areas.
Problem Solving: Anticipates and proactively pursues facilities-related maintenance issues and/or problems. Recognizes inherent problems with procedures and practices and makes suggestions for improvement. May include management, peers, and subordinates in the decision-making process to gain the support and acceptance of all parties.
Client/Customer Service: Identifies options, develops solutions, and takes action when responding to customer requests. Satisfies individual customer requests while balancing multiple priorities. Assesses or checks with customer to ensure solution meets request. Develops effective working relationships with internal/external customers (vendors, subcontractors, etc.) that further the work unit's goals. Reviews customer requests and seeks clarification as needed. |
