Job Title:Tax Analyst
Location:Latrobe, PA - Hybrid
Job Summary:
This position is an integral member of our global tax department and will play an active role in various U.S. tax matters for Kennametal, including direct and indirect tax compliance, tax audits, and tax planning. Primary areas of focus will include U.S. sales and use tax and other indirect tax compliance, U.S. federal and state income tax returns, participating in various U.S. tax audits, and supporting tax planning and other special projects.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and support the timely and accurate preparation of U.S. state and other jurisdictions' indirect taxes including sales and use, personal property, business license, and annual report filings.
- Provide guidance to business partners about the appropriate taxability of business transactions.
- Monitor and review customer sales tax short pay transactions and obtain exemption certificates as necessary.
- Timely review and respond to tax notices.
- Maintain general ledger account reconciliations for indirect tax accounts.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls as they relate to indirect tax.
- Manage exemption certificate database to ensure validity of exempt transactions.
- Manage and/or support Indirect tax audits
- Prepare IRS Forms 720 and 1042 on a regular basis.
- Conduct technical tax research and documentation as needed.
- Assist with special projects as needed.
- Interact with various functional groups throughout the company regarding tax matters and build effective working relationships inside and outside of the tax department.
- Support the evolution of the tax reporting function, tax technology tools, and technological enhancements.
- Provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Support the direct tax function as necessary.
Education, Work Experience, Skills, Certificates
- BS or BA required; CPA, MBA, JD, and/or MS in taxation preferred
- Minimum 2-4 years of corporate tax experience in either a large public accounting firm, law firm, or multinational company
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Collaborative and resourceful team player with positive attitude, energy and close attention to detail
- Demonstration of strong analytical skills, and the ability to develop solutions around new facts or tax law changes
- ERP and tax compliance software experience preferred, preferably SAP and Sovos
