Job Scope

The senior manager and field application scientist is responsible for leading the global FAS team to educate and train them in the use of Luminex technologies and to lead onsite collaboration with partners to solve scientific challenges or help build new products. Luminex's Field Application Scientist team will report to the Director of Scientific Solutions, complement the in-lab work custom assay services department (xPLORE) by providing similar capabilities, and/or serving as a liaison in customer labs. The Sr. Manager, Field Application Scientist, will deliver front-line implementation support and training to users in the field. He/she will collaborate with Commercial sales, Quality, and R&D to ensure sales are achieved and quality products are delivered to customers. The Sr. Manager, Field Application Scientist is expected to be an expert on the platform, the technology, and applications.

Key Duties and Responsibilities



  • Develop and maintain metrics to highlight performance and gaps in the field application team.
  • Coordinate the management of regional key accounts, local accounts, and critical issues as a member of the Service and Support leadership team.
  • Partner with the local field team to monitor and resolve customer difficulties, including complaints.
  • Assist the FAS team in planning and organizing activities to ensure efficient and practical support for the commercial sales team and customers.
  • Coordinate the FAS team to assist the xPLORE team in assay transfer onsite trainings and technical assistance.
  • Lead and develop a team of Field Applications Specialists with a principal goal of proliferating our technology through quality training programs, lasting relationships, and a commitment to help customers obtain their goals in a regulatory-compliant manner.
  • Recruit and train a top tier FAS organization worldwide that will drive the success of the Company.
  • Implement and drive appropriate training plan, adherence to it and other performance improvement plans for the field applications team.
  • Develop, share, and implement the long-term vision and strategy of the Field Applications Team.
  • Evaluate employee performance, provide ongoing feedback to foster growth and development, and take appropriate actions.
  • Complete Annual performance reviews.
  • Build support infrastructure and processes, developing documentation and training materials.
  • Analyze support case trends and report back to the product team to help improve the product.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Education, Experience, and Qualifications



  • Bachelor's Degree Life Science, Business, Marketing or related field required
  • Master's Degree Life Science, Business, Marketing or related field required
  • Ph.D. Life Science, Business, Marketing or related field preferred


  • 7+ Years Sales Representative experience managing accounts, sales, and client relationships required
  • 5+ Years Experience demonstrating strong leadership and management skills required
  • 5+ Years Demonstrated experience in setting sales strategies and coaching sales representatives to improve selling efficiency required
  • 5+ Years Demonstrated track record of achieving and exceeding revenue targets, with experience managing territories required
  • 5+ Years Strong analytical skills, capable of analyzing market trends and competitor activities to develop effective sales strategies required
  • 5+ Years Experience in business planning, forecasting, and budgeting resources required
  • 5+ Years Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating effectively with cross-departmental teams and encouraging relationships with collaborators required
  • 5+ Years Ability to convey information in a clear and concise manner required
  • 4+ Years Strong leadership skills with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and in teams required


  • Experience supporting customers in a highly technical environment (High proficiency)
  • Demonstrated superior competency in analytical skills and strong scientific fundamentals (High proficiency)
  • Logical problem solving and demonstrated ability to organize and move project tasks forward in an orderly (High proficiency)
  • Thorough understanding of the principals of assays, their development and their applicability (High proficiency)
  • Ability to independently execute assay and reagent troubleshooting, optimization, and validation experiments (High proficiency)
  • Solid communication (written and verbal) skills with the ability to translate information into a meaningful, understandable context and message, regardless of the format (e.g. documents, public speaking situations, presentations, etc...) (High proficiency)
