Overview

To facilitate the activities of an inpatient nursing unit through the effective performance of receptionist, transcriptionist, and clerical processes and/or to assist Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses, in performing secretarial duties and other duties involving patient care and unit maintenance activities. Must consistently use independent judgement in the scheduling and routing of information to assure timely and thorough response by Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center services. This position manages information and connects physicians, team members and visitors with appropriate resources.

Responsibilities

Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge of patient.

Completes assigned aspects of admission process including paperwork, room setup, room orientation, assures call light available etc.

Sets up equipment for care (specialty supplies, IV poles, admission kit, others).

Assists staff with packing up all patient belongings at discharge, if needed.

Patient and staff needs are met, and satisfaction of care is expressed.

Reports pertinent information to the appropriate nurse assigned to the patient in a timely manner.

Provides secretarial support in a timely and efficient manner.

Information/documents are filed appropriately for easy retrieval.

Communicates effectively with other support staff throughout the Carle Health system.

Accurately conveys the details and essence of all messages.

Proactively anticipates needs, both defined and undefined, as evidenced by compliments, enhanced or newly developed processes that improve workflow, and effective communication.

Completes work while conserving resources.

Prints labels as needed.

Prevents waste of supplies and linen.

Checks patient room for unused equipment/supplies and returns to SPD promptly.

Willingly responds to requests by nursing staff accepting delegated duties from the RN or LPN.

Performs unit maintenance duties.

Completes assigned maintenance tasks such as: cleaning of kitchen, refrigerators, utility room, IV poles, carts, making charts, and distributing SPD items.

Ensures adequate stock of BSI supplies in all rooms.

Accurately files patient chart documents.

Knowledgeable of quality improvement indicators and assists in achieving positive patient outcomes.

Prints unit census.

File reports from printer/fax.

Posts assignments/information/etc on board.

Prepares charts for anticipated admissions, discharges and nursing home placement.

Assembles admission packets.

Attends and participates in unit committees, meetings (i.e. Unit Secretary meetings, meetings with CEO, Culture Ambassador meetings, benefits meetings, etc).

Enter pending/confirmed discharge in bed management system.

Assigns staff phones and coordinates with call light system.

Updates Bed Management system with admits and discharges.

Serves as a point person for various functions.

Greets visitors, physicians, patients and team members in a friendly receptive manner.

Prioritizes and accurately channels incoming and outgoing information.

Assists in achieving department goals and objectives.

Utilizes teamwork effort to maintain positive patient perceptions in the areas of promptness, friendliness, attitude towards calls, problem solving,

Gives and receives peer evaluation constructively.

Respects patient and family privacy.

Responsive to requests and concerns from other team members.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $16.59per hour - $26.88per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
