Description Summary
The medical assistant at Thrive Behavioral Health provides support to the prescribing team by ensuring that client medicine management and other records are processed accurately and efficiently in order to provide exceptional client care. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Keeps abreast of current literature and developments in the field and attends or completes required agency trainings, supervision, and meetings. 2. Ensures to use the utmost of care in protecting the confidentiality of client records in accordance with State and Federal laws. 3. When applicable, documents client notes in a timely and accurate manner in the EMR system and in compliance with agency policy and procedures, including writing objective notes and other timely status reports as requested by supervisor and according to COMAR and Joint Commission standards. 4. Attends supervision on a weekly basis and seeks consultation with treatment team members and other internal and external professionals; working with the client to discuss and coordinate services. 5. Understands and adheres to Thrive Behavioral Health compliance standards as they appear in Thrive Behavioral Health Corporate Compliance, Code of Conduct, Conflict of Interest and Culture of Safety policies. 6. Stays aware of all pertinent federal, state and Thrive Behavioral Health regulation, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified. 7. Completes prior authorizations and any needed follow-up to ensure clients can obtain medication without prior authorization barrier. 8. Contacts pharmacies to troubleshoot and coordinate follow up to prevent and/or minimize harm from prescription related issues/delays. 9. Collaborates with external medical providers for various purposes to support coordination and client care. 10. Coordinates and sends Laboratory Test orders, EKGs, sleep study referrals, or other to external providers. 11. Triages, coordinates, and supports with completion of medical forms or other documentation requested by team or client, such as FMLA forms, 500 forms, etc. 12. Participates in quality improvement efforts which may include data collection or aggregation on a routine schedule. 13. Runs reports and analyzes data to support client care and meet standards of care through the use of Microsoft Excel. 14. Communicates with clients regarding potential medication issues or concerns in order to provide appropriate triage and take action which leads to zero harm. 15. Discusses workload bandwidth, including when there are more demands than time allows and when there are insufficient number of tasks to be completed during scheduled work hours. 16. Cross trains and covers for staff in other related roles, such as Front Desk, as needed. 17. Stays aware of all pertinent federal, state and Thrive Behavioral Health regulation, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified. 18. Performs other duties and tasks required by individual supervisor. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 1. Knowledge of industry standards: organization, theory, principles, and research processes, accreditation and regulatory standards, ability to assess clinical care requirements based on psychotherapeutic and human development principles, scope of practice and regulatory standards. 2. Has the ability to consistently consult with supervisor and staff and works collaboratively and effectively with treatment team, client, therapists, and supervisor to implement solutions and to model appropriate behaviors. 3. Demonstrates the ability to systemically collect, record and analyze data and other relevant interactive social systems, including mental status, special precautions (suicidality, homicidality, elopement); and ethical concerns (social, religious, or cultural needs). 4. Knowledgeable of normative developmental milestones in chronological age. 5. Professional readiness: Issues related to self-awareness, diversity, and ethics. 6. Knowledge of PC software programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook is preferred. 7. Written and oral communication skills; must be able to concentrate on work amid distractions such as noise, conversations and foot traffic. 8. Must be able to work independently with little direct supervision in an unstructured environment with multiple demands. 9. Must be organized, flexible, and able to demonstrate self-motivation and prioritization. 10. Reading and writing level that can clearly express or understand complex concepts, assessments, directions and processes or sequences of events-level equivalent to at least High School diploma. 11. Ability to represent the program well in interactions both inside and outside the facility. 12. Performs as part of a team. Education, Training, and Experience Required: 1. The medical assistant will have at least a high school diploma or its equivalency (preferred). 2. Preferred, medical assistant will have at least 2 years knowledge and experience working in a healthcare setting. 3. Preferred, medical assistant will have received formal education in nursing, medicine, or related field. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Register Nurse, or Pharmacy Technician strongly desired. 4. Prefer CPR/First Aid Certification. |
