As a Mechanical Engineer II, you will:

A week in the life of a Mechanical Engineer II:



  • Conduct research of submarine construction drawings using the Advanced Technical Information Support (ATIS) System.
  • Part of a team that develops submarine shipboard alterations.
  • Work on United States Submarine Force Non-Propulsion Electronic System (NPES) projects.
  • Learn while working with an experienced engineering staff.
  • Conduct static analysis of mechanical structures.
  • Conduct hydrodynamic analyses under a variety of at-sea operational conditions.
  • Develop models to predict performance.
  • Assist the Design Team with material selection based on in-process stress calculations as well as commercial and/or military specifications.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews of design and engineering products.
  • Interface with customers and government sponsors.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Business experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • FEA experience with other software such as ANSYS, Abaqus, etc.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Clearance.
  • In office (non-telework) position, Monday - Friday.
  • Physically capable to conduct ship checks on United States Nuclear Submarines:
  • Be comfortable in relatively confined spaces.
  • Able to climb vertical ladders (20' - 25') within the submarine.


At least (2) years' business experience in:



  • Working with AutoCAD and AutoDesk Inventor or SolidWorks.
  • Working with MATHCAD Engineering Mathematics Software (or similar software).
  • Working with Finite Element Analysis.

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is $70,000-75,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
