Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Facilities Services Department reports directly to the Associate Vice-Chancellor for Facilities Management and is responsible for providing housekeeping service throughout NCCU campus.
Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of this position is clean and performs routine housekeeping in the University Buildings. Duties include sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floor surfaces; waxing, stripping, and buffing wood and tile floors; cleaning bathrooms, replenishing paper supplies and soaps as needed; emptying trash receptacles; moving furniture; high/low dusting; cleaning equipment; operating heavy equipment; and snow and ice removal during inclement weather. Position will work special events functions, i.e. commencements, convocations, etc.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The successful candidate must possess a working knowledge of cleaning in a high traffic, fast paced academic and office building setting; knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets ( MSDS) and their purpose in addition to how they are used in housekeeping; ability to perform heavy to medium physical work; ability to lift up to 50 pounds; ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form; ability to work with diverse populations including department faculty, staff, students, university officials, public, and vendors; ability to multi-task in addition to bending and stooping frequently; ability to perform basic computer skills; ability to follow written instruction.
Minimum Education/Experience
Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Special certification may be required for some of these positions.

Duties
Reads work schedules and diagrams of buildings to arrive at the assigned work area on a timely basis.
Performs basic cleaning such as sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, dusting, disinfecting, vacuuming, etc., to keep working areas in a clean and orderly condition.
Fills dispensers, such as tissue and soap dispensers, with the proper product and amount.
