Grants Specialist

This position is an on-campus, full-time, 12-month, Professional Support Staff appointment with an annual salary of $46,937.06

The Grants Specialist is responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the grant process such as: preparing, organizing, facilitating, and submitting grants; providing specialized grant-related assistance to applicants; developing and writing/editing grant proposals, reports, budgets, budget narratives, and other grant-related content.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist with managing, administrating, and maintaining active registrations for Parkland federal grant accounts; navigate and effectively utilize various online grant submission portals.
  • Synthesize and apply information from multiple sources, including academic and technical subjects; institutional, economic and demographic data; state and federal grant policies; and college initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of changing grant standards; proposal guidelines; and local, state, and national policies that affect grant making at the College.
  • Prioritize tasks and manage time effectively to comply with internal, partner, and funder deadlines.
  • Schedule, initiate, attend, and participate in project meetings, both in person and virtually.
  • Formulate and assist in developing grant budgets in accordance with Parkland College, state, federal, and grantor requirements.
  • Effectively and diplomatically communicate with various college administrators, staff, and faculty as well as external program officers and grant partners.
  • Compose grant applications, including writing or editing narratives, abstracts, support letters, etc.
  • Collaborate with composing and distributing weekly, monthly, and annual grants reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Successful completion of a criminal background check with fingerprinting.
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office or 365 including Teams and Outlook, and the ability to learn new programs as technology changes.
  • Possesses strong communication capabilities with proficiency in verbal and written communication, nuanced interpersonal engagement, mathematical analysis and reasoning skills, and precise writing abilities to assist in proposal preparation and organizational communication.
  • Bachelor's degree and at least one year of experience in grant development (or related work experience); or a combination of education and work experience.
  • In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment. This applies to all SURS annuitants except those receiving their annuity under either the Self-Managed Plan (SMP) or by lump sum payment.
