Position Title: WELDER

Position Summary:

Position is responsible for the fabrication, welding and assembly of metal components as specified by customer work orders, engineering process routers, blueprints and any applicable code or specification while applying welding theory, shop mathematics, layout and fit-up techniques.

Reports to: Welding and Fabrication Supervisor

Personnel: Not applicable.

Accountabilities: Welders are responsible for producing conforming components that meet all blueprint dimensions within the said tolerances; welds must meet the requirements of the applicable code or specification while working in the most efficient manner. All SOP's and WI's must be followed and a safe, clean and organized work area must be maintained.

Duties:

  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, routing instructions, manuals, specifications and weld procedures to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished weldment.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining or fabrication operations as required by router instructions and good shop practice.
  • Use precision measuring instruments.
  • Operate hand tools and other shop equipment such as grinders, positioners, turn rolls, etc.
  • Perform the lay out, fit-up and assembly of weldments.
  • Weld multiple materials utilizing multiple weld processes.
  • Perform material handling functions using fork trucks, overhead cranes, etc.
  • Enter correct data into data collection system (IDC) and ensure accurate labor reporting.
  • Understand and properly operate the "Available Documents" program.
  • Monitor and maintain proper cleanliness of machines and work area on a daily basis.
  • Communicate with co-workers and supervisor to receive instructions and coordinate activities.

Job Qualification Requirements:

Educational Experience - A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A minimum of one year of trade school, vocational education or apprenticeship is preferred but not required.

Physical Demands - The employee is required to:

  • Stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to floor.
  • Exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
  • Exert 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or
  • Exert up to 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Certification Required - Required to pass employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standards of government agencies or professional and technical associations.

Visual Acuity - Near acuity and accommodation are required for reading blueprints and welding. An annual eye exam is required.

Hearing Ability - Ability to hear and interpret welding sounds to ensure welding specifications are met.

Working Conditions - The employee is subject to:

  • High noise levels from operating machines.
  • Physical hazards from moving equipment and production components.
  • Breathing fumes, dust and mist.
  • Skin exposure to oils and cutting fluids.
  • Burns from hot metal and metal spatter.

The employee may be required to follow other job-related instructions and to perform other job-related duties as requested, subject to all applicable state and federal laws.

Attendance is an essential job function.

Employees will operate in compliance of all recognized standards that Major Tool adheres to (such as AS9100, ISO 9000, ASME and AWS codes), including all supporting policies and procedures.
