Position Description

PALA Interstate, LLC

General Description:

Prepares cost estimates and schedules shop projects to aid management in bidding projects. A Pipe Fabrication Shop Planner is responsible for designing piping systems,

selecting suitable materials, overseeing the fabrication process, and ensuring all systems meet safety and performance standards. The role involves ensuring quality control, coordinating project schedules, and maintaining safety regulations. The ideal candidate has a solid understanding of piping engineering, fabrication processes, and quality assurance.

Essential Functions:

  1. Studies drawings, plans and specifications to get overall picture of work that needs to be done. Utilizes basic math skills including trigonometry to perform calculations.
  2. Performs "job walk" in order to see where the work is located in the field and to assess work environment.
  3. Compiles list of types of materials, tools or equipment needed.
  4. Compiles list of workers needed to man the job including each classification of worker and number of each classification needed.
  5. Utilizes basic knowledge of the different languages and functions of craftsmen, engineers, accounting representatives, safety personnel and attorneys in order to coordinate project.
  6. Gives job review/proposal to appropriate personnel.
  7. Plans sequence of work to be done in logical order utilizing personnel and equipment factors. Schedule of work to be done must be discussed with client and agreed upon.
  8. Computes overall cost estimates for materials, labor and subcontracted work, often utilizing an estimate book.
  9. Performs weekly/biweekly updates on all projects.
  10. Maintains constant effective verbal and written communication with all parties involved in each job.
  11. Utilizes basic computer knowledge to input information and issue reports.
Position Requirements
  • Five years of field experience or degree in construction management/engineering.
  • Basic accounting knowledge.
  • Experience with Inventor and AutoCAD R14 or higher.
  • Must have a solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Products, Internet and email applications.
  • Must maintain a valid Driver's License and meet appropriate motor vehicle insurance requirements.
