St. Paul Academy and Summit School is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Volleyball Coach.

About St. Paul Academy and Summit School:

St. Paul Academy and Summit School: St. Paul Academy and Summit School (SPA) is a coeducational, non-sectarian, college preparatory day school serving more than 920 students in kindergarten through grade 12. Our two campuses are located approximately a mile apart in St. Paul, Minnesota, serving Grades K-5 on our Goodrich Campus and Grades 6-12 on our Randolph Campus. SPA believes Athletics contributes to the overall educational experience of our students, where lessons learned in sport are as valuable as those learned in the classroom. The Athletics program at SPA is one of the most successful in the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL). SPA is ranked in the top 20 of all MSHSL schools in the number state for championships won. Our student athletes have been recognized as some of the top athletes in the state, region and country. The women's soccer team has been in the state tournament each of the last three years and won the state championship in 2023. Additionally, a number of former and current team members plan to play at the college level in the future.

Position Begins: August 2025

Status: Part-time, Seasonal

Department: Athletics

Salary: $3,000 - $4,000 based on qualifications and experience

Description:

This coach will work closely with the head coach of the Volleyball program and other assistant coaches to train our highly motivated and dedicated student athletes. This coach will serve as an important part in the skill development of student-athletes and will be responsible for supporting the vision for the program and nurturing our student-athletes in a positive, educational-based athletic philosophy. The position begins August 2025 and continues through November 2025.

Candidates will be required to demonstrate strong organizational skills, effective communication skills with students, other coaches, parents, and administration, as well as teaching and develop skills to improve the technical ability of student-athletes with varying levels of experience. Candidates should support the mission of SPA, nurturing student-athletes in a positive educational-based athletic philosophy and have an ability to foster a positive team culture where student athletes gain the ability to work together as a team.

A qualified candidate should have coaching experience at various skill levels in a competitive environment and/or in a state association like the MSHSL. Qualified applicants must include a list of references.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:




  1. Ensure the women's volleyball culture reflects the "Spartan Way" - Integrity, Excellence and Passion and the the student athletes reflect the values of SPA athletics.



  2. Supporting a positive environment that promotes team excellence - "We Before Me"



  3. Assisting the head coach to run practices and high school competitions



  4. Communicating with coaches about practice and game strategy and plans, training feedback and tournament feedback, etc.



  5. Communicating with student athletes about their goals and achievements as well as providing individualized feedback.



  6. Attend team competitions and HS tournaments



  7. Attend team events like preseason meetings, team picture day and end-of-season banquet, etc.



  8. Maintain a safe, positive and fun environment while recognizing the contributions of all; impressing upon the athletes and parents that their efforts are valued



  9. Participate as a positive team member in the development and support of excellence within the Athletic Department.




SPA is an independent school that plays in the Independent Metro Athletic Conference (IMAC) and attracts college bound, bright and curious students, who lead multi-faceted lives.
