About the opportunity
SWCA Environmental Consultants has an exciting opportunity for a Biological Detection Canine Handler (HR Title = Natural Resources Technician) for a wind energy project in west-central New Mexico, near Springerville, AZ and Quemado, NM. This position will focus on performing biological surveys using a trained dog to locate dead or injured animals under turbines. The position will require data collection using a tablet. This is an on-call position; work will be as-needed when our main dog handler for the project is unavailable for a given 2-week search period from March 1, 2025, through November 30, 2025. When needed, workload will require 44-54 hours each 2-week search period. An initial training period in Texas in February 2025 required. Preference will be given to local candidates. Additional natural resources work at other projects may be available depending on the candidate's preferences and project needs. This position will close on January 24, 2025. An employee in this Flagstaff, AZ-based position can expect an hourly rate of $19.24- $25.48/hr. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
