Conde Nast is seeking a highly experienced Editor-in-Chief to lead the them brand. We're looking for a visionary leader and brand steward who will be responsible for the editorial direction, brand strategy, audience development, video, operations, and all content and brand extensions. You will partner with colleagues in sales, marketing, finance, and other divisions to develop and execute a robust business strategy that is aligned with the editorial vision and brand values, and you will lead teams to conceptualize, execute, and deliver original, engaging, creative content across platforms.

You should have extensive experience managing content creation, brand strategy, and operations across digital, social, video, audio, events/experiences, and licensing partnerships, as well as experience working collaboratively within a matrixed organization. You should have a proven track record of building and leading teams with diverse backgrounds.

This role reports to Conde Nast's Global Chief Content Officer and is based in New York City.

Primary Responsibilities:

Editorial & Brand Strategy

  • Grow and guide the success of the media brand

  • Define editorial strategies for the brand that are culturally relevant and socially aware

  • Ideate and conceptualize content that speaks to a diverse and highly engaged audience

  • Execute these editorial strategies to deliver content through all channels

  • Build audiences for the brand by partnering with teams to drive audience growth and engagement

Content Delivery & Operations

  • Oversee content production on all channels and platforms while maintaining the highest quality journalism

  • Assign and top-line edit content across all platforms

  • Assure the brand is meeting monthly traffic goals and other benchmarks

  • Work in tandem with Conde Nast leadership team to produce content that meets Conde Nast standards and expectations

Team Leadership & Management

  • Lead a diverse team of highly skilled editors, writers, creatives, digital experts, and managers, including dotted-line management of embedded team members from centralized functions

  • Directly manage senior team members and lead by example in inspiring, developing, motivating, and uniting the team

  • Prioritize diversity and inclusivity in all people practices including hiring, management, employee development, performance management, and team morale/culture

  • Foster an environment of collaboration, and entrepreneurialism to overcome creative challenges while simultaneously meeting business objectives

  • Collaborate with Finance, HR, and other business partners on annual budgets, brand P&L, and hiring/staffing plans

Business Development & Marketing

  • Partner with marketing/consumer revenue teams on subscription strategies, e-commerce opportunities, and events that are within Them's brand standards

  • Work with relevant stakeholders in sales, marketing, video, licensing, and other divisions to pursue revenue opportunities that are aligned with brand and editorial values and standards, including sponsored or branded content, affiliate and e-commerce revenue, events, strategic partnerships, and brand licensing, among others

  • Represent the brand at internal and external events

  • Work with the communications and marketing teams to develop press and marketing strategies for the brand, with an emphasis on growing brand recognition and affinity

Desired Skills & Qualifications:

  • 10-15+ years of experience in a senior editorial role, leading teams across digital, video, and social media

  • Strong business acumen, excellent editing and proofreading skills, networking and interpersonal skills, and the ability to guide a team towards business goals

  • Demonstrated success in producing culturally relevant content for under-represented communities

  • Deep and nuanced knowledge of LGBTQ+ culture and issues in the U.S. and around the world

  • A flair for storytelling and a proven track record of driving culture and identifying trends and topics to cover - and determining the platforms on which they should run

  • An entrepreneurial mindset, with a focus on new opportunities for stories and areas for audience growth

  • Proven history of delivering exceptional content in a multi-channel environment, with an innovative approach to using digital tools

  • Experience working closely with business teams to identify and collaborate on revenue-generating projects, whether commercial or consumer

  • Demonstrated experience in building a culture of trust and inclusion and leading through organizational and cultural change

  • Strong interpersonal communications skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues across myriad departments and differing levels of seniority

  • Confident and experienced public speaker

The expected base salary range for this position is from $215,000-$250,000 Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.

In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates may also be eligible to receive discretionary bonus compensation.
