POSITION OVERVIEW AND PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

Primarily responsible for the analysis of environmental samples utilizing EPA, Standard Methods and other methods approved by regulated authorities. Examples of responsibilities for Scientist I include, sample preparation/extraction, preparation of standard s/reagents and analysis of samples using common methodologies. Candidate will be required to participate in proficiency testing for the certification of drinking waters and waste waters. Must use judgment to evaluate and adapt laboratory requirements/guidelines to customer specifications and testing needs. Because of the critical nature of the support provided, extended working hours (including weekends and holidays) are often mandatory.

The Scientist I operates with a degree of independence under established policies and procedures. Normally receives guidance from Laboratory Lead and/or Senior Scientist to assure coordination of efforts with other laboratory personnel. May occasionally interact with customers and their representatives according to customers' needs/requirements.

Primary/Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):



  • Conduct analyses using applicable and approved EPA methods for primarily drinking water
  • and waste water samples.
  • Adheres to all guidelines established in EPA methods and laboratory standard operating
  • procedures including active participation in quality control set forth in all.
  • Actively participates in contractor quality and safety programs.
  • Participates in providing innovative approaches to technical problems, contributes to the
  • overall increase in lab efficiency through adaptive thought and information exchanges.
  • Familiarity with basic laboratory science techniques such as use of a balance and pipette, and
  • familiarity with basic scientific principles.
  • Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation a plus.
  • Responsible for review and generation of Standard Operating Procedures.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • This position requires a Bachelor of Science degree.
  • 2 years experience conducting analyses of environmental samples preferred.
  • Professional knowledge of chemical principles, theories, practices and established
  • methodology sufficient to perform chemical analyses on environmental samples.
  • Experience with data management systems a plus. requirements needed
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
