Job Summary

The Inventory Management Technician 3 position is an integral member of the healthcare team and is responsible for ensuring inventory supply meets the demands of our patients' needs in a timely manner, ensures pharmacy robotics and automation are stocked and maintained in operational status, and assists in maintaining compliance with UCDH policies and procedures, State and Federal laws and regulations including the 340B Drug Pricing Program and the Drug Supply Chain Security Act, and accrediting bodies. The Technician 3 also provides drug dispensing and distribution activities, compounding medications, maintaining pharmacy automation, prescription billing, processing payments for prescriptions, tracking deliveries and training other personnel as assigned. This position fosters excellent intradepartmental and interdepartmental relationships and provides quality and cost-effective pharmaceutical care to all patients.

Minimum Qualifications -

  • California Licensed Pharmacy Technician
  • 2 years of recent work experience in an Outpatient Pharmacy or Specialty Pharmacy as a licensed Pharmacy Technician
  • Knowledge of current Medi-Cal Formulary and other third- party billing systems
  • Working knowledge of current third-party insurances, Medicare Part B, California State Medicaid, and/or manual claims
  • Working knowledge of pharmacy terminology, generic/brand name drugs and abbreviations
  • Working knowledge of billing and submitting authorization requests for State funded insurance programs
  • Ability to accurately perform pharmacy calculations
  • Working knowledge of current California Pharmacy Law
  • Ability to operate Pharmacy Information System and other computer programs

Preferred Qualifications

  • California Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB)
  • Experience and working knowledge within a UCDMC Outpatient Pharmacy
  • Experience in inventory management at a Health System Outpatient Pharmacy or Specialty Pharmacy
  • Experience with 340B drug pricing program inventory management and 340B accumulator platforms such as Macro Helix
  • Experienced with acquiring inventory from wholesalers, direct from manufacturers, and other vendors
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience in correctly and accurately using, maintaining, and troubleshooting pharmacy robotics and automation
  • Experience in running inventory reports and analyzing data for inventory requirements
  • Experience in utilizing EPIC Willow Ambulatory pharmacy dispensing system
  • Experience in non-sterile compounding tasks using equipment including, but not limited to, graduated cylinders, mortars and pestles, scales, stirring machines, etc.
  • Knowledge in and ability to perform sterile and non-sterile compounding
  • Ability to recognize situations that exceed technician authority and ability and must be referred to a pharmacist for resolution
  • Problem-solving skills to independently recognize and define a problem and identify the resources available to help solve the problem; to independently create and implement viable solutions and follow through to ensure the problem is resolved
  • Ability to exercise discretion to ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained, and a professional, respectful clinic/department environment exists at all times
  • Ability to impart knowledge and develop the skills of students participating in training programs, as well as new hires and staff seeking additional opportunities
  • Working knowledge of and skill to apply practices, principles and techniques of patient care related to area of expertise
  • Written and oral communication skills to clearly and concisely provide information, explanations and instructions to, and to elicit information from others with varying levels of ability to understand, including individuals who are ill or distressed, or who may not speak English.

Department Overview

The Department of Pharmacy is a dynamic, integral, and critical part of patient care provided by UC Davis Health. As
a department of greater than 600 professional, technical, and administrative support personnel, we focus on providing patient-centered medication management that optimizes outcomes through practice, education, research, and leadership through the continuum of care. We also have the largest pharmacy residency program in the country with 46 total residents in 13 different programs.

The Department of Pharmacy offers comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical
services, infusion pumps, and teaching) throughout the health system complex 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The
pharmacy services encompass inpatient pharmacy services as well as an expansive footprint in the ambulatory care
space where we have clinical pharmacists embedded within our clinics and specialty care locations. Our operational
teams support the health system enterprise with three inpatient pharmacies, five outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, a home infusion service line, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores, and distribution.

Work Environment
