Position Summary
This is a highly responsible professional position providing project management for the UGA Research Institute ( UGARI) and its Defense and Security Collaboration portfolio, as well as Office of Research Integrative Team Initiative Programs and strategic initiatives. The position will be responsible for providing project management from project development and capture through execution for large, externally funded research programs and work closely with, and on complex projects coordinate the activities of the Office for Proposal Enhancement ( OPE), Research Security, and Sponsored Projects Administration ( SPA). Work will be performed under the general guidance of the Project Management Group Lead and the Associate VP for Research, Integrative Activities.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Project management and/or Program Coordination experience in an academic environment.
  • Agency Grant or Contract Project Management and/or Program Coordination experience. Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, or similar government agency projects.
  • Hold or have future plans to receive Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Extensive knowledge of the methods, procedures, and techniques used in grant preparation, coordination, and implementation at an academic institution.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with university personnel, state and federal agencies, and private organizations.
  • Ability to lead as well as work as a team member with all project partners and staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Exceptional organization skills with an ability to multitask.
  • Strong customer service orientation and commitment.
  • Exhibit a very high level of initiative.
  • Ability to work independently and with multiple partners and stakeholders in a deadline-oriented environment.
  • Experience assigning tasks and monitoring progress to meet project needs and deadlines.

Duties/Responsibilities
Provide project management and coordination for the initiatives and projects of the UGA Research Institute ( UGARI), including the following:

  1. Support for projects done in coordination other units from proposal development and capture through execution.
  2. PM support for the portfolio of projects UGARI undertakes in collaboration with the Director of Defense and Security Collaboration.
  3. Coordination to expedite and integrate the actions of OPE, Research Security/Compliance, and SPA to meet faculty needs and sponsor requirements.
  4. Serve as primary Point-of-Contact (POC) for sponsoring agencies, including reporting, and relationship cultivation and maintenance.

Duties/Responsibilities
Provide project management and coordination for Integrative Team Initiatives and programs addressing team formation and development, team training, and large integrative project planning, management, and launch. Duties include the following:

  1. Management of the Presidential Interdisciplinary Seed Grant Program, including establishing the Letter of Intent (LOI), full proposal submission, and review processes; awards and declinations; and craft regular reporting and synthesize results.
  2. Management support and mentoring to the Team Interdisciplinary Research (TIR) Pre-Seed program.
  3. Management and coordination support for team training programs.
  4. Project management and coordination support for the Major Integrative Proposal Planning (MIPP) Program in coordination with OPE, including organization of internal and external teams and completion of pink and red reviews for designated integrative proposals.
  5. Project management for the Research Training and Support (RTS) Group and supervision of its staff member(s).
  6. Project management for new UGA research initiatives and externally funded major programs through their launch phase, including OoR Strategic Initiative Institutes.

Duties/Responsibilities
Provide project management support for OPE for ITI supported large proposal projects working in close coordination with the Proposal Enhancement Officer. Duties include the following:

  1. Independently research existing information about large integrative grant programs, sponsors, agencies, and potential collaborators. Use this information to strategize regarding development of individual proposals.
  2. Create project plans with timelines and checklists for proposal submission and document creation for major grant proposals in coordination with the Proposal Enhancement Officer and ensure faculty team adherence.
  3. Create meeting agendas. Lead and facilitate meetings of between 5-20 faculty member(s), depending on size of proposal.
  4. Work with PI to develop and implement proposal strategy; lead the proposal team in accordance with this strategy throughout the proposal development process to ensure cohesiveness of proposal vision and competitiveness of proposal.
