Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior IT Technical Specialist at UL Research Institutes and UL Standards & Engagement, based in our Evanston, IL office. The Senior IT Technical Specialist provides onsite support and maintenance of IT equipment, including servers, workstations, network equipment, storage, IT communication systems, and cloud infrastructure. Working closely with leadership, this position provides technical expertise and support to maintain optimal IT system functionality, enhance efficiency, and address technical challenges.

What you'll learn and achieve:

As the Senior IT Technical Specialist, you will play a key role in the rapid growth of UL as you:

  • Installs, configures, and maintains IT Equipment including workstations, network switches, firewalls, servers, storage, and cloud infrastructure.

  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots hardware and software issues in compliance with corporate IT standards and ITIL best practices.

  • Serves as a liaison with vendors to coordinate hardware repairs, software updates, and support help-desk functions for internal and remote users.

  • Collaborates with corporate IT personnel to manage upgrades and maintenance of network, hardware, and software infrastructure while addressing site-specific requirements.

  • Provides onsite and remote support to site scientific laboratories in integrating analytical and measurement instrumentation with data management systems and recommends new equipment and software for projects and data applications as needed.

  • Provides technical guidance on workstation, server, storage, and network system issues.

  • Monitors network performance and proactively identify and address any related issues.

  • Maintains up-to-date documentation and knowledge base of the latest workstation, server, storage, and network technologies.

  • Participates in on-call rotation and provides after-hours technical support as needed.

  • Performs other duties as directed.

Professional education and experience requirements for the role include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar role.

  • Proven experience in workstation, server, storage, and network system installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.

  • Knowledge of PowerShell or scripting languages is a plus.
