Position Summary: The Staff Accountant will oversee the financial operations of the HVAC company, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, and compliance. This role requires a hands-on approach in reviewing daily accounting functions, such as accounts payable/receivable, payroll, general ledger, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of accounting principles, experience with industry-specific financial processes, and a commitment to accuracy. This role is perfect for candidates with a 2-year accounting degree and / or those with equivalent work experience in accounting, especially in HVAC or similar industries. Essential Functions:
- Perform daily accounting functions, including general ledger entries, reconciliations, and account maintenance.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
- Reconcile bank accounts and credit card transactions, ensuring timely resolution of discrepancies.
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries and reporting.
- Maintain and update financial records, contracts, and documentation for audits.
- Assist with job costing, project accounting, and tracking of expenses specific to HVAC projects.
- Monitor inventory records, equipment purchases, and depreciation schedules.
- Provide administrative support to the finance department and assist in developing process improvements.
- Monitor and review reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with relevant teams to implement corrective actions and enhance compliance procedures.
- Develop and maintain detailed documentation of compliance reviews and findings.
Qualifications:
- Education: A 2-year degree (associate's degree) is preferred but not required.
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience is mandatory, preferably in the HVAC, construction, or related service industries.
- Strong understanding of job costing, WIP (Work in Progress) accounting, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
- Proficiency in accounting software (WennSoft a plus) and advanced knowledge of Excel.
- Solid understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented, with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
Travel Required
- Travel to branches within the organization may be required from time to time.
