JOB OVERVIEW:

The Senior Manager of Procurement for Direct Materials is a key member of the Procurement team, reporting directly to the Director of Global Procurement. This role leads both the packaging and ingredients categories. As the Procurement organization at Blue Diamond Growers is on a journey to create a "best-in-class" sourcing organization, this role is critical in delivering on that mission. This is a very strategic and cross-functional role. Management of the direct categories will include everything from, but not limited to, developing category strategies, leading supplier relationship management (including quarterly business reviews, scorecards, etc), creating should-cost models, negotiating contracts, executing RFPs, developing a risk mitigation plan, collaborating on innovation with marketing and R&D, materials management, deploying and utilizing new procurement technology, implementing and tracking cost-savings initiatives, evaluating the total cost of ownership (TCO), and reporting out on industry and market news and economic indicators. Additionally, the Senior Manager, Procurement has three direct reports - a Senior Procurement Specialist, a Buyer, and a Procurement Coordinator.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Strategic Sourcing, Category Management, and Supplier Management:

  • Lead the end-to-end sourcing process for all ingredients and packaging including developing supplier landscapes, sourcing new suppliers, completing financial/quality/other due diligence on potential suppliers, executing RFIs/RFQs/RFPs, negotiating contracts, evaluating supplier performance, and managing the overall supplier relationship
  • Lead the development and execution of category strategies for ingredients and packaging (including supplier landscape, short-and long-term strategy, savings opportunities, spend analysis, competitive analysis, capacity planning, etc.) based on an understanding of the overall business' strategy, goals/objectives, and product roadmap
  • Develop should-cost models for current and future ingredients/packaging with a deep understanding of cost drivers for each
  • Assist in developing Supplier Relationship Management best practices and tools including supplier business review templates, supplier scorecards/KPIs, supplier segmentation, contract adherence, risk mitigation strategies, supplier forecasts, strategic collaboration with suppliers, etc.
  • Foster strong mutually beneficial relationships with suppliers to ensure high quality, service, and value
  • Conduct comprehensive market research to stay informed about industry trends, market conditions, and supplier landscapes
  • Leverage market intelligence to identify opportunities for cost reduction and competitive advantage
  • Conduct economic forecasting and assess total cost of ownership for assigned categories

Innovation, Sustainability, and Cost-Savings:

  • Support R&D and Marketing with innovation projects, ensuring we source optimal, cost-effective ingredients and packaging while meeting the company's deadlines for new product launches
  • Work closely with the Sustainability, Government Affairs, R&D, and Packaging Engineering teams to align category strategies with sustainability and regulatory needs. Coordinate projects and contacts between our suppliers and these internal teams to accomplish Blue Diamond's overall sustainability goals
  • Assist in developing a Supplier Code of Conduct
  • Analyze the direct categories and provide recommendations on cost-savings opportunities; lead and execute savings initiatives to realize those savings
  • Work closely with Finance to forecast, track, and analyze cost-savings from the direct categories

Process Improvement and Compliance:

  • Drive efficiency across assigned categories with a focus on supplier performance management
  • Ensure continuous improvement in procurement practices, striving to create a 'best-in-class' sourcing organization
  • Sustain and enforce implemented procurement best practices across the company

Materials Management:

  • Work closely with the Buyer and Supply Planning team to develop a supply forecast and materials replenishment program/methodology
  • Participate in the development and implementation of an MRP system in order to automate Procurement's forecasting/planning and materials replenishment process
  • Develop a supplier forecast process and cadence for communicating forecasts to suppliers

Strategic Communication and Leadership:

  • Clearly communicate procurement activities and strategies to senior management
  • Lead the strategic sourcing process including negotiations of contracts/supply agreements
  • Act as a leader within Procurement (as part of the Procurement Leadership team), within the Supply Chain group, and across the broader organization
  • Effectively documents, communicates, and gains consensus across the organization to ensure alignment
  • Strong internal partner management skills - capacity to listen, build trusting relationships in all levels of the organization, understand and capture needs to deliver effective solutions, and influence others

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, business, economics or related fields. Master's degree or an MBA preferred.
  • 8 years of procurement experience, especially strategic sourcing and in leadership
  • Experience in sourcing/leading ingredients and packaging categories is preferred. Will also consider indirect and capex sourcing experience
  • Required in-depth knowledge of the sourcing process with strong negotiation skills
  • In-depth knowledge of procurement systems/software, especially SAP and SAP Ariba
  • Excellent project management and cross functional leadership and communication skills
  • Excellent analytical skills to be able to analyze bids and data from a variety of data sources to help drive decision-making; drive cost-savings; and develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Extensive experience in driving and performing complex negotiations and a variety of deals/contracts
  • Ability to drive aggressive implementation plans and schedules
  • Must be able to problem-solve and handle multiple projects and stakeholder needs
  • Ability to work efficiently
  • Materials management/replenishment experience and knowledge of how an MRP works
  • People management/leadership skills - ability to help guide and coach direct reports with business and professional development goals
  • 15-30% travel required
