The Clinic Medical Laboratory Scientist analyzes human samples, such as blood, tissue, and body fluids, to determine chemical content, cell count, drug levels, blood type, and the presence of microorganisms. Working under direct supervision, this role is responsible for utilizing automated equipment and specialized instrumentation to prepare samples and perform multiple complex tests that provide valuable information on diseases. This role's analysis is critical in helping healthcare professionals make informed decisions and develop appropriate treatment plans.


Performs all processes associated with testing of laboratory specimens, such as documenting lab activity through worksheets and logs, ensuring prioritization of duties and workload meet established turnaround times while adhering to established policies and procedures.
Adheres to the laboratory's quality control policies, documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed, and takes action regarding any quality control or quality assurance issues prior to releasing testing results to maintain accuracy in specimen testing and reporting.
Actively supports and complies with established laboratory protocols and regulatory standards to ensure compliance with safety and quality guidelines.
Practices efficient use of supplies and actively participates in inventory control to maintain a cost-effective and well-equipped laboratory.
Meets technical training requirements, completes required competencies and assigned proficiency testing by the due date and maintains knowledge of procedure changes.
Demonstrates effective problem-solving skills to assure optimal outcomes by identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and utilizes available resources to troubleshoot and escalate complex or unresolved issues.
Communicates with and assist patients and staff in a professional and courteous manner to facilitate effective communication during shift transitions to ensure seamless continuum of care and reduce the risk of errors or omissions.
Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science

EXPERIENCE:
Required: 1 year of generalist experience in a hospital or similar physician office laboratory

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
Required:
Certification or eligibility as Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist upon hire from either ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) or AMT (American Medical Technologists). Certification must be completed within one year from date of hire.
BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
