Responsibilities
- The MICU is 12-bed unit caring for acutely ill medical patients and the SICU is an 8-bed unit caring for acutely ill surgical patients.
- Nurses are trained to interpret dysrhythmias, balloon pumps, CRRT, etc, and are involved in miscellaneous bedside procedures.
- In the SICU, the nurses will be required to undergo extensive training in the recovery and care of an immediate post-op open heart patient. A variety of trauma, thoracic, vascular and abdominal surgery cases are also managed.
- Both units have continuous bedside monitoring in all patient rooms to facilitate accurate and close monitoring.
- Nurses also manage vasoactive medications for blood pressure issues along with sedation for those who are ventilated.
- Nurse patient ratio is 1:2 and varies some depending on acuity.
- Annual education and competency is provided.
Qualifications
Education:
- Diploma from an RN program.
License(s)/Certification(s):
- Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in primary state.
- Must apply within 90 days for licensure in secondary state.
- Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Within 6 months of hire, must acquire and maintain current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Must maintain annual unit specific educational requirements as specific educational requirements as specified by Nurse Manager.
