This individual will be a leader on the corporate marketing team responsible for developing, guiding and delivering on marketing strategies that drive growth, engagement and reputation of Optum Pharmacies within the OptumRx business.

They will serve as a key partner to pharmacy leadership and regularly contribute to business strategies, including product development, sales enablement and operations/experience. This role will also have a heavy focus on developing, optimizing and coordinating individual pharmacy value propositions across shared audiences in parallel with ongoing evolution and optimization of marketing strategy.

The VP, Marketing must be able to understand and employ information about business activities and processes, demonstrate a deep understanding of stakeholder and target audience needs, pain points, goals and preferred communication methods, and stay connected to relevant activities taking place across the enterprise, ultimately leveraging all inputs to effectively contribute to overall business performance, priorities and IOI targets.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Maintain trusting relationships with Pharmacy CEO's and their leadership teams, as well as enterprise functions to assist in translation and application of business priorities to drive pharmacy-specific marketing strategies
  • Partner with multiple teams across the enterprise to develop and deliver insights and market to all audiences, including patients, pharma, prescribers, payers and health systems
  • Develop marketing strategies for new and evolving business products and priority areas, identifying & understanding target audiences and ensuring compelling, differentiated positioning tied to demonstrable proof points
  • Oversee development and execution of marketing campaigns and materials in partnership with internal and external creative and delivery teams
  • Recognize & recommend opportunities for research activities to expand knowledge and insights surrounding key audience and influencer groups, ensuring that insights are socialized to appropriate business leaders and partners
  • Identify, advocate for and deliver on opportunities to improve patient experience through collaboration with functional partners, including pharmacy operations, digital product and technology
  • Design success measurement methodologies & define marketing KPIs, monitor performance and regularly report out on activities, results and learnings to senior leadership
  • Accountable for marketing budget & budget performance, including forecasting, tracking & optimizing
  • Develop cost-benefit analyses and IOI contribution projections for ongoing and incremental marketing-driven investments
  • Lead performance and development of direct reports & associated teams

Required Qualifications:

  • Professional experience in a matrix organization, with time spent partnering with other functions, including legal, operations and finance
  • Advanced experience in a marketing or growth organization, including experience leading a team that spans across multiple products, services and/or audiences
  • Professional experience in a health care organization, with a focus on external audience & stakeholder engagement
  • Expert ability to translate business strategies into actionable strategic goals and tactical roadmaps
  • Advanced experience estimating, planning, allocating, tracking and recalibrating annual budgets
  • Demonstrated experience directing, understanding and applying research & insights
  • Expert ability to establish, measure and evaluate team performance against KPIs
  • Experience being part of a senior leadership team, including championing strategies, explaining methodology and disseminating results to C-suite executives
  • Experience interpreting, applying and validating compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Commitment to domestic travel up to 10%



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience developing value propositions for, and/or launching, health care-related products and services
  • Experience marketing to/communicating with both B2B and B2C audiences
  • Thought leadership and external communications experience
  • Experience with Adobe suite of marketing tools
  • Communications skills: building collaborative relationships, resolving roadblocks, managing conflict
  • Leadership skills: coaching, facilitating, influencing without authority, lead organizational change
  • Adjustment/Self-Management skills: handling stress, personal adaptability, self-motivated
  • Analytical skills: ability to use data to determine results and recommend appropriate next steps
