INTERNAL RECRUITMENT TO UC DAVIS ONLY. The Robert & Rosabel Osborne Endowed Chair in Evolution and Ecology provides additional funding to a current UC Davis academic appointee in the ladder rank series. The additional funding may support the endowed chair holder in areas of teaching, research and outreach activities directly related to the purpose of the endowment. Application Window Open date: December 11, 2024 Most recent review date: Monday, Feb 3, 2025 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Final date: Monday, Jun 30, 2025 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Position description The holder of the Robert and Rosabel Osborne Endowed Chair will be a tenured faculty member in the Department of Evolution and Ecology, College of Biological Sciences, whose specialty is in any area encompassed by the department, including but not necessarily limited to evolution, ecology, bioinformatics and genomics, and whose distinguished scholarship is nationally recognized. The initial term of the Robert and Rosabel Osborne Endowed Chair will be for five years, with the option of reappointment after a positive review. Appointment(s) and reappointment(s) will follow regularly established University procedures for endowed chairs/professorships (APM 191, UCD-APM 191). The endowment payout may be used to support the chair's efforts in research, teaching, service, and salary in furtherance of the mission of the Department of Evolution and Ecology and the campus. It is expected that the holder of the endowed chair will advance at least normally through the faculty ranks on the basis of his/her scholarly activities, teaching, University and public service. Responsibilities of the Endowed Chair: * Provide leadership; engage in scholarly activities and conduct research in evolution, ecology, bioinformatics, genomics or other disciplines within the academic plan for the Department of Evolution and Ecology. * Engage in undergraduate and graduate teaching in the Department of Evolution and Ecology. If the chair holder also holds an appointment at the level of vice chancellor, vice provost, or dean or above at the University of California, the teaching expectation may be significantly reduced to include only occasional seminars, graduate student mentoring, or other similar teaching activities. * Perform service to the Department of Evolution and Ecology and to the University of California, Davis. * Enhance the academic and intellectual life of the University of California, Davis. The Endowed Professorship holder should be a member of the UC Davis faculty at the Associate or Full Professor level in the Department of Evolution and Ecology. Research and teaching focus will be on evolution, ecology, bioinformatics, genomics or other disciplines within the academic plan for the Department of Evolution and Ecology. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to conduct scholarly research resulting in high quality publications and should also show evidence of a strong teaching program at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
