Overview of the Position:

Learn and understand the proper operation of the employee's grinding machine (ID, Jig, and OD). Be responsible for that machine, report any problems to Management. Use and be able to read micrometers, c-micrometers, and bore gauges. Learn and be able to indicate or "zero" parts on machines. Grind parts to the specifications called for on "Travelers". Be familiar with the company computer system, knowing how to "clock" parts to locations and document the required paperwork.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Read and understand ACI procedures and shop work instructions.
  • Check tolerances of parts using C-mics, Tri-mics, bore gauges, and calipers.
  • Complete set-ups on machines, indicate parts to find position and grind to specific tolerances.
  • Properly maintain all assigned equipment.
  • Follow the "time in location" priority list.



Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Must speak, read and write the English language.
  • Should have basic computer software skills.
  • Prior work experience in machine grinding helpful but not require.
  • Should be able to read blueprints.
  • Have knowledge and understanding of Appendix A. Safety Procedures.

Education / Experience Requirements:



  • Must have H.S. Diploma or GED.
  • Must have 3 months to 2 years ACI experience or related outside experience.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl;
  • Is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Is frequently required to talk or listen.
  • Works in moderate noise levels.
  • Lift heavy part chucks (50-100 lbs.)
  • Lift heavy grinding rocks (50- 90 lbs.)
  • Lift heavy parts (50- 80 lbs.)
  • Most of the heavy lifting occurs in the O. D. Shop.
  • No vision requirements.
