Essential Job Duties
We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile Maintenance Technician to join our team. This role involves the maintenance, repair, and operation of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning ( HVAC) systems, steam/hot water boilers, and associated auxiliary equipment. Additionally, the position encompasses plumbing, electrical work, and general building maintenance within a designated service zone. The ideal candidate is a proficient problem-solver with hands-on experience and the ability to perform journey-level work across multiple trades.

Key responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:


  • Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs for HVAC systems, boilers, fan turbines, pumps, steam lines, and associated equipment.
  • Cut, thread, assemble, and install pipes; connect valves and fixtures; install gas, water, and sanitary systems; and ensure proper testing and functionality.

  • Perform construction, installation, and repair of electrical systems up to 600 vac, including conduit wiring, panels, breakers, and light fixtures, ensuring compliance with NC code.
  • Conduct routine maintenance on refrigeration, air conditioning, and related equipment following manufacturer guidelines to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Repair and adjust temperature controls, regulators, humidity controllers, pneumatic valves, and other sensors to maintain efficient system operations.

  • Adhere to safety protocols and industry standards while working on critical systems to protect team members and equipment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to address maintenance requests, prioritize workload, and ensure seamless building operations within the service zone.

Other Responsibilities

  • This position has been designated as an Essential Personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule.
  • This position may assist with snow and ice removal under the direction of a supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Minimum Experience/Education
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification(s).

Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Other Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrate a depth of knowledge and skills for pneumatic controls, as well as DDC type of controls.
  • Able to communicate effectively with supervisors and the general public, and is able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions and other communications related to work assignments and other matters.
  • Able to lift up to 60 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NC electrical license.

  • CFC Universal Certification.
