Under direct supervision, prepares selected patients and equipment for physical therapy services, assists in administering treatments, observes patients during treatments, reports status changes to a therapist, and orders department supplies, ensuring sufficient stock.
Education: HS or GED Licensures/Certifications: Current BLS CPR certification Experience: 3 months healthcare experience preferred Skills: * Knowledge and understanding of standard patient care and health care system policies and procedures. * Skill in demonstrating excellent customer service * Skill in oral and written communication * Ability to identify and report changes in patient's condition or equipment malfunctions to supervisor * Ability to organize and prioritize workload * Advance skill in various clerical support functions: filing, inventory, data entry, email and basic correspondence, phone * Basic skill in computers/ Microsoft Office, * Eligible to successfully train in EMR within access granted * Skills in self-time management and organizing workspace * Effective oral and written communication * Basic knowledge of medical terminology and / or anatomy or ability to learn the same * Eligible to successfully demonstrate use of vital signs devices.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists with the following under the direct supervision of a therapist or an Occupational Therapist Assistant: (within guidelines of Md. OT or PT Board of Practice)
- Gait and ambulation;
- Functional activities;
- Transfers;
- Routine follow-up of specific exercises;
- Application of hot or cold packs;
- Assists a physical therapist assistant when more than one individual is required to ensure the safety and welfare of the patient during ambulation, transfers, or functional activities.
- Remains with therapist during measurements, handles equipment and /or. transcribes Measurements/ data into EMR flowsheets
- Performs the following activities without the direct supervision of a therapist, Physical Therapist Assistant, Occupational Therapist Assistant, or other designated provider
- Prepping room and setting up equipment.
- Photographs patient limbs or area to be treated in standard poses
- Transporting patients to and from treatment areas;
- Undressing and dressing patients;
- Removing and applying assistive supportive devices.
- Facilitates patient flow
- Interprets therapist, MD or nurse schedules; assist in pacing patient activity
- Assigns patient rooms
- Escorts patients to and from waiting room
- Turnover patient rooms adhering to infection control policies
- Prep of patient room or treatment space with accordance with therapy ready standards
- Encouraging, guiding and helping recurring therapy patients to prepare for therapy session by removal of compression garments or bandages , rolling of compression bandages
- Assist patients with personal hygiene
- Keeps track of clinic and office inventory and supplies and linen; reordering when necessary and within budget constraints
- Cleans, maintains exercise and office equipment. Strip, clean, make beds.
- Prepares instruments to bring to Central Sterilization
- Cleans shower between patient use.
- Patient escort or fulfilling out of department errands as needed.
- Within the limitations of credentialing and training, the Rehab Tech will also assist the medical staff of Rehabilitation Medicine'sLymphedema Center with tasks that include patient transportation, removal of bandages, assistance with dressing, and other rooming duties
- Taking patient weight and vitals
- Remains with nurse during measurements, handles equipment and /or. transcribes Measurements/ data into EMR flowsheets
- Provides administrative support by:
- Maintaining logs and records of patient attendance and treatments performed;
- Notifying nursing units of inpatient treatment times;
- Participating in check in and out of outpatients; scheduling outpatient follow-up appointments
- Receiving patients, visitors and telephone calls
- Performs office duties as needed.
- Performs and presents needed planning, audits, for LDM metrics
- Backup and assistance with all basic reception and clerical duties
- Faxing; copying; printing, scanning
- Chart audits as requested
- Assists taking calls from patients, physicians, vendors, GBMC staff; monitoring voicemail;
- Gathering all required documents for ordering appliances and compression garments for patients; follow-up with vendors as needed
- Filing
- Schedules laboratory tests, radiology and consultant patient appointments for patients when necessary.
- Medical Supplies
- Assists in maintaining departmental inventories, ordering supplies and equipment as needed.
- Retrieves supplies for patient from OMNICELL as requested
- Retrieves supplies per request in a manner that supports infection control standards
- Observant to billing standards for supplies
- Prepares equipment and treatment areas.
- Reinforcing patient practice of therapist assigned activity, patient transfers, guarding Falls Risk patients when walking, spotting patients on gym equipment, orienting patient to use the shower safely
- Being observant and reporting any apparent issues or referring patient to therapist to answer questions patient verbalizes about condition.
Patient & Workplace Safety:
Pay Range $15.92 - $22.07
