Job Summary

The Staff Physical Therapist (Physical Therapist 2) works with pediatric patients across the age continuum - infants, children, adolescents - and from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds providing both direct and indirect patient care services. Under general direction and upon receipt of written referrals, the Staff Physical Therapist plans and administers a full range of physical therapy services for patients with a variety of physical and cognitive impairments and functional limitations.

The Stad Center for Pediatric Pain, Palliative Care, and Integrative Medicine Program (PPIM) at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals provides care across the continuum from acute to chronic/complex pain to palliative and hospice care in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. Our comprehensive multidisciplinary approach provides patients and families with the most up-to-date pain and symptom management therapies that prioritize pain prevention, pain relief, comfort, and healing. We embrace a multimodal approach to analgesia, which includes integrative therapies, psychosocial support, and pain anesthesia-based modalities to provide the highest quality of care in pain and symptom prevention, assessment, and treatment. Our team is comprised of pediatric pain anesthesiologists, pain hospitalists, palliative care providers, integrative medicine practitioners, registered nurses, social workers, spiritual care, and grief and loss specialists.

The Staff Physical Therapist works collaboratively with the PPIM practitioners and staff in a team-based approach to patient care, providing Physical Therapy at Benioff Children's Hospital locations in the City & County of San Francisco. The Staff Physical Therapist delivers individual patient services including patient evaluations using physical therapy tests and measurements, establishment of therapeutic intervention goals and development of therapeutic intervention programs, and implementation of therapeutic intervention plans utilizing physical therapy modalities and procedures.

The Staff Physical Therapist maintains all applicable patient records related to the delivery of patient care services. While performing job duties, the Staff Physical Therapist may also supervise support personnel including Rehabilitation Aides as well as Physical Therapy students. The Staff Physical Therapist actively participates in departmental and organizational programs, including quality and performance improvement activities, clinical education programs, and inservices and staff development activities.
