Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) located in scenic Upstate NY is a multi-campus College with locations in Troy and Malta New York. HVCC offers more than 80 degree and certificate programs in three schools: Business and Liberal Arts; Health Sciences; and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Hudson Valley is one of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York (SUNY) system and serves nearly 9,000 students each year. The college is a recognized leader in career and transfer preparation, workforce training initiatives, distance learning and service to a diverse population of students. Hudson Valley has an extension center in Malta, NY known as HVCC North and sponsors the Capital District Educational Opportunity Center in Troy, NY. Center for Academic Engagement

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree and two (2) years of experience working in a campus support service office and excellent interpersonal skills required. Master's Degree and experience as workshop leader or learning strategies trainer preferred.

Nature and Scope of Duties:

The Academic Coach reports to the Associate Dean of Learning and Academic Support Centers and performs the following duties:



  • Identifies, conducts outreach to, and supports various student groups (e.g. GAP students, athletes).
  • Meets with students individually and in small groups, in-person and remotely, to encourage personal adjustment and academic development through goal-setting, problem solving, decision-making and self-appraisal skills.
  • Assists in maintaining relationships with academic departments and campus offices to offer support and encourage referrals.
  • Supports students in developing an academic success plan focused on meeting the demands of their coursework and personal responsibilities.
  • Provides guidance and mentoring to all students, including nontraditional student cohorts.
  • Refers students to support services and coordinates their connection and use of college support services in a friendly, caring, sensitive, and non-judgmental manner.
  • Assists in the development of student support programming designed to foster student persistence and retention.
  • Stays informed about campus-wide programs, activities, and events designed to help students overcome personal and academic challenges.
  • Prepares information for, and conducts, a range of activities (e.g. workshops, orientations, etc.) to facilitate student's academic success, persistence and retention.
  • Represents CAE at various campus events and presents on CAE services thoughout the year as needed.
  • Provides data and reports based on student outcomes to the Associate Dean as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and may act on the Director's behalf in their absence.


This is a 12-month, Full-Time position with a salary range of $43,000-$45,000.
