New York Institute of Technology seeks an Associate Bursar to be responsible for the collection of money, reviewing of tuition accounts and placing phone calls, emails, letters, in an effort to identify and decrease risk and liability to New York Tech. The Associate Bursar is responsible for servicing students with account inquiries and payment processing in the Old Westbury location for New York Tech, NYITCOM, and Global campuses.



Responsibilities

Responsibilities: include but are not limited to:

    Make outbound and receive incoming calls.
  • Ensure all available financial aid has been awarded and credited properly to student accounts.
  • Review payment plans for student accounts and send reminders of payments due.
  • Respond to student inquires to include late payment fees, account balances, payment plan amounts, and payment deadlines.
  • Work with Registrar, Financial Aid, and Academic Departments to resolve grade disputes, withdrawals, date errors and other matters that may affect the students' outstanding balances.
  • Follow up on corrections and adjustments to student accounts.
  • Must provide excellent customer service to students.
  • Monitor student accounts for accuracy of coding and charges.
  • Must interact heavily with Registrar, Collections, Security, Library, Financial Aid, Counseling & Wellness, Housing and Admissions to ensure timeliness of cohort processing.
  • Provide support to management on text and phone campaigns.
  • Assist at our NYC campus as required for orientation and coverage of Bursar office during absences and heavy registration periods.
  • Reconcile daily banking reports and work closely with accounting office.
  • Participate in audits, system testing and adhere to Federal & State regulations as required.
  • This position is also responsible for assisting with the phase out and mandatory assignment to the Department of Education (the Department) for the defaulted (non-performing) Federal Perkins Loans following the guidelines and requirements set forth by the Department agencies. Assist with collection and compliance of HPSL loan portfolio.
  • Responsible for delinquency management and prevents past due accounts from reaching default
  • Performs all other duties required of the Federal program including, but not limited to, communicating with borrowers regarding past due payments, deferments or forbearance; communicates the Rights and Responsibilities of the loan, and adheres to all Federal deadlines.
  • Creates and maintains accurate files; updates all loan transactions, on-line, with our Perkins Loan Servicer, including refunds, small balance write-offs, change of status, deferments, forbearance, and any other transaction that may be required. Familiarity with bankruptcy laws and cancellation provisions.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree required. Experience in Higher Education preferred
  • Student Accounts or Financial Aid, Accounting, Banking or Collection experience preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft experience preferred
  • Excellent customer service experience
  • Strong attention to detail along with analytical and organizational skills.
  • Primary work location: Old Westbury, NY - may be required to work in Manhattan as business needs dictate.
  • Nights and weekends required in accordance with business needs.

New York Tech considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate experience/expertise, education/training, key skills, geographic location, internal peer equity as well as market, organizational considerations and/or applicable collective bargaining agreement when extending an offer.
