Job Description
The purpose of a standardized patient is to portray a patient for instruction, practice, and evaluation of nursing skills, allowing students to engage in their training in a realistic and immersive, yet risk free, environment.
Standardized patients simulate individuals in various medical, behavioral, and emotional scenarios. Each scenario or patient case is designed to meet the needs of the curriculum and associated learning objectives.

Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.
Must be available to attend mandatory training on Tuesday, January 14th, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
This is a temporary position with an expected end date of April 5th 2025
Required Education
High school diploma/ GED
Required Experience
No formal training is required
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Sit or lie down for up to 30 minutes at a time
  • Able to realistically portray a simulated scenario
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliability and flexibility in scheduling
  • Ability to memorize scripted information
  • Comfortable with technology and simulation equipment
  • Must be able to realistically portray the emotional and physical aspects of a patient or family member
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback to learners if requested
  • Maintain confidentiality of all case materials, scenarios, and learner performance
  • Adhere to schedule commitments and arrive punctually for all assigned sessions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior acting experience
  • Experience in healthcare
  • Experience in education

Hours per Week 20
General Weekly Work Schedule
Flexible work schedule, varying Monday through Saturday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
can be 3 hrs up to 30 hrs in a week depending on availability.
There may be 1 or 2 sessions deleted.

Mental Health scenarios:
3/7: 12-3
3/14, 3/17 and 3/31: 8:30-2 with 1 hr lunch unpaid
3/10: 8:30-11:30
Pediatric scenarios:
2/17 and 3/31: 1:30-4:30
2/18, 2/19, 2/21, 2/22, 4/1, 4/2, 4/4, and 4/5: 8-11 and 1-4
2/20, 4/3: 2-5
