Overview

Responsible for providing care for patients including assessment, treatment, care planning and medical care evaluation by following standards and practices. Assists physicians, mid-levels and other staff in coordinating patient care.
Qualifications

License/Certifications:
Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT) - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT); Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA); Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) (AMT) - American Medical Technologists (AMT); Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA); Driver's License - Secretary of State (SOS); Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)

Education:
H.S. Diploma/GED

Other Knowledge/Skills:
Certified medical assistant


Responsibilities

  • Patient care:

    • Cares for and assists patients as appropriate.
    • Brings patient care issues to the provider's attention.
    • Obtains and documents a proper intake including patient's health history, vital signs, and health risk factors.
    • Assesses condition via MORSE fall scale or Oswestry pain scale as appropriate.
    • Provides patient education materials and communicates physician advice/instructions to the patient.
    • Obtains patient consent for care/in-office procedures.
  • Office procedures:

    • Sets up and assists with office surgeries and procedures including US injections, C-arm injections, fracture closed reductions, and podiatric office procedures.
    • Cast and splint application, removal, and patient education.
    • Dressing changes and applications with patient education.
    • Suture and staple removal.
    • Fits patients with boots, braces, and other DME items as ordered by the provider.
    • Prepares injections.
  • Administrative tasks:

    • Obtains all lab, imaging, op notes, and office visits from outside facilities.
    • Places orders for physical therapy, imaging, lab work, etc., as ordered by the provider.
    • Ensures patient confidentiality.
    • Adheres to infection control/safety guidelines and confidentiality policies.
    • Compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and Red Flag rules.
  • Equipment and supplies:

    • Prepares instruments for sterilization and ensures the autoclave is in proper working order.
    • Checks AEDs weekly to ensure they are in good working order.
    • Orders, maintains, and stocks supplies for clinic use.
    • Checks clean/dirty laundry status and ensures appropriate stock on hand.
    • Coordinates packaging and pick-up of biohazard waste for disposal.
  • Collaboration:

    • Works closely with the provider, nursing, and other staff to ensure quality patient care.
  • Other duties:

    • Performs other duties as assigned.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $15.8per hour - $25.6per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
