POSITION SUMMARY:

Gel Coat Repair and Detail position is responsible for touch up and repair of imperfections, scratches, and cracks in the surface gel coat of the boats before they reach the assembly department of the manufacturing process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs touch up or repairs defects in surface gel coat, determined by Auditor.Depending on the type of flaw such as cracks, scratches, pre-release, orange peel, or drill spots, a specified repair procedure is required.

  • Combines appropriate amounts of gel coat and catalyst in a small container for use during the patching process.

  • Prepares flawed areas for patching by using Dremel tools and sanding equipment.

  • Applies a specified amount of catalyzed gel coat to the repair by use of a spray gun or by blading a patch.

  • Sands, buffs, and polishes the repaired area after the patch or sprayed gel coat has cured.

  • Participates in the detail audit to ensure quality of the boat and/or the repairs.

  • Maintains a safe, clean and hazard free work area.

  • ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Degree Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:

  • Ability to distinguish colors

  • Depth perception

  • Ability to operate hand and air tools

  • Ability to hand sand

  • Detailed manipulation with fingers and hands

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Outside and inside

  • Extreme heat

  • Fumes, smoke, or gasses

  • Solvents (degreasing agents)

  • Slippery or uneven walking surfaces

INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT:

  • Performs tasks and duties under general supervision, using established procedures and innovation. Chooses from limited alternatives to resolve problems. Occasional independent judgment is required to complete work assignments. Often makes recommendations to work procedures, policies, and practices.
