THE POSITION

The Bureau of Waterways and Wetlands is seeking an experienced engineering professional to fill the position of Senior Civil Engineer (General) in the Department of Environmental Protection. This role involves overseeing the implementation of statewide initiatives focused on waterway and floodplain management. You will play a crucial part in developing and executing programs that ensure effective management of waterways across the state. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will serve as a Senior Civil Engineer (General) within the permitting section of the Waterways and Wetlands program for the Northwest Region. Your responsibilities will include the execution of statewide initiatives related to waterway management and floodplain management, as required by the Clean Streams Law, the Dam Safety and Encroachments Act, and the Floodplain Management Act. You will be tasked with ensuring compliance with these legislative mandates while overseeing the permitting processes associated with waterway and wetland projects. This position requires a thorough understanding of the relevant laws and regulations to effectively manage and protect water resources in the region.

Your expertise will contribute to the development and implementation of strategies aimed at maintaining the integrity of waterways and floodplains. Collaboration with various stakeholders will be essential to achieve the program's objectives and promote sustainable management practices.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Meadville.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $73,995.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
  • Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty; and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; and an associate's degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or
  • Two years of professional civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.

Special Requirements:
  • This position requires possession of a valid driver's license.
