Overview

Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) has an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Technician - Data Center Support Specialist supporting TOS II, at Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC) at Arnold AFB, TN. The Data Center Support Specialist will be working as a member of an integrated team responsible for operating and maintaining the United States Air Force Test Operations efforts at AEDC.

Open to internal and external candidates. The selected candidate for this requisition must be available to work any shift and shift determination will be made based on the priority of work at the time the selected candidate is cleared to report to work. This position also supports occasional scheduled weekend work and rare unscheduled night or weekend support in emergency situations.

Job Summary

The individual hired in this role will provide support to test operations by manning the Data Center where data servers and storage for test facility data reside. The individual hired will operate data acquisition and storage equipment and monitor and backup recorded data in a sensitive compartmented information facility (SCIF). Duties of this position also include serving as a security custodian for the data center with responsibility for monitoring personnel and activity within the secure area and ensuring security of the information and the physical space. This position includes all 3 shifts as well as occasional weekend work.

Job Duties:

    Support the efforts of engineers, technicians, and technologists in technical work within an assigned discipline.
  • Support the use of common work processes and procedures within assigned function across the TOS contract.
  • Perform non-routine and complex assignments independently in test data centers and other areas as required. Typical duties include the following:
    • Perform test support duties associated with operating data acquisition and recording computers running Windows and Linux operating systems in a data center environment.
    • Perform user account management to include account creation, group assignment, password assistance, account unlock and lock functions in a MS Windows AD and Linux environment.
    • Support recording, processing, transmission, backup, and archival of test data.
    • Provide user support and troubleshooting in the resolution of issues associated with data recording, processing, transmission and archival.
    • Conduct phone-based problem triage with users as first level support. When necessary, pass issues on to higher level support personnel based on a support matrix.
    • Operate air-gap computer workstations to validate that external media is safe for use on production computer systems.
    • Use, write and update work instructions used for critical data center processes.
    • Maintain the inventory data used to manage the operational supply inventory.
    • Perform security surveys and audits as required.
    • Serve as security custodian of data center(s). Working in conjunction with the industrial security office, ensure computer room physical security requirements are implemented and maintained.
    • Act as the primary access interface for all data processing and facility related work in the data center(s)
    • Support local building manager requirements involving HVAC, power, safety equipment, and lighting requests as needed within the data center(s).
  • It is a condition of employment to wear company issued PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Two years of college with courses in an applicable technical field, and a minimum of 6 years of progressive and relevant work experience to the degree necessary to perform the outlined responsibilities. Additional relevant education may be substituted for experience.
  • Must obtain and maintain DoD8570 compliant, IAT Level II certification to include CompTIA Security+ certification within 6 months of employment start date.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance and the AEDC local area network.
  • Current U. S. Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active DoD secret or higher-level security clearance
  • DoD8570 compliant, IAT Level II certification to include CompTIA Security+ certification
  • Knowledge of computer system technology and applications; familiarity with application of computers to engineering problems.
  • Excellent communication and team interaction skills.
  • Mathematical or computer expertise or a combination of the same.
