EEG Technician II - Per Diem

Job Profile Summary

This role focuses on providing medical and clinical support services to patients. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Neurology related duties: Monitors the functional integrity of certain neural structures (e.g., nerves, spinal cord and parts of the brain) by performing diagnostic testing. An organizational related support or service (administrative or clerical) role or a role that focuses on support of daily business activities (e.g., technical, clinical, non-clinical) operating in a "hands on" environment. The majority of time is spent in the delivery of support services or activities, typically under supervision. An experienced level role that requires basic knowledge of job procedures and tools obtained through work experience and may require vocational or technical education. Works under moderate supervision, problems are typically of a routine nature, but may at times require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures, and communicates information that requires some explanation or interpretation.

Hours: Per Diem

Location: New England Neurological Associates, Lawrence, MA.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. High School diploma or equivalent.

2. Successful completion of an approved course of study in Electroencephalography (EEG).

3. American Board of Registry in EEG Technology certification.

4. Basic Life Support Certification.

5. One (1) year of experience as an EEG Technologist.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Three (3) years of experience as an EEG Technologist

Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

1. Performs all or the more difficult parts of an EEG Technologist position.

2. May perform the duties of Chief EEG Technologist during vacation. illness, etc.

3. Records sensory evoked potentials for diagnostic purposes.

4. Obtains EEG recordings in the Operating Room by monitoring during cerebrovascular surgery, recording from the exposed brain during neurosurgical procedures and recording sensory evoked potentials during surgery.

5. Records EEG's at bedside including isolation, neonatal and all ICU conditions.

6. Makes the appropriate calibration procedures of the EEG apparatus for special and standard recordings.

7. Adapts procedures to particular circumstances by adding electrodes in non-standard locations to devise the appropriate recording techniques.

8. Assists medical staff during special procedures by providing extra monitoring and extra electrode application.

9. Participates in research by collecting data such as case history, whether patient is left or right-handed, etc.

10. Gives direct technical descriptions of EEG changes to surgeons as they occur during monitoring.

11. Inspects and ensures proper maintenance of EEG and related equipment.

Physical Requirements:

1. Works in normal patient care environment with no discomfort due to temperature, noise, dust and the like.

2. Walks and stands for more than half the day and occasionally pushes equipment.

3. Frequent exposure to unpleasant fumes and occasional exposure to blood and body wastes.

4. Work requires close visual and auditory attention.

5. Frequent contact with patients. Physicians, nursing staff and families.

6. Lifts and positions patients.

Skills & Abilities:

1. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and Meditech.

2. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

3. Ability to read, write, speak, and communicate effectively.

4. Excellent typing skills, proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet and database software programs.

5. Good communication skills.
