Job Description

Are you passionate about safety, science, and making a meaningful impact in a dynamic environment? Join the MU Research Reactor (MURR) Health and Safety team as a Health Physics Technician and become a vital part of promoting a strong Nuclear Safety Culture. We are looking for dedicated individuals who thrive on ensuring the proper handling of radioactive materials and leading by example when it comes to safety and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety Monitoring: Observe and support employees working in radioactively controlled areas, ensuring the safe handling of radioactive materials.

Radiation Surveys: Conduct comprehensive surveys of laboratories and equipment to detect radioactive contamination.

Documentation: Create, review, and update essential Health Physics and Safety documents.

Shipment Oversight: Oversee the preparation and shipment of radioactive materials, verifying that they are correctly packaged, sealed, and labeled, and reviewing associated paperwork for compliance.
Isotope Analysis: Perform isotope analysis to support research and safety protocols.

Decontamination Efforts: Lead and execute decontamination of radioactively contaminated areas to maintain a safe work environment.

Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and calibrate Health Physics equipment and monitors to ensure optimal performance.

License Review: Regularly review licenses and documentation for accuracy and compliance.

Training Support: Serve as a knowledgeable resource for training new employees and students, fostering a culture of safety and best practices.

Successful candidates will be persuasive communicators with exceptional organizational and time management skills. Additionally, customer service, confidentiality, integrity, and a commitment to university values in their actions.

Must be available for regular and consistent onsite work.

Shift

Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., variable (to be discussed at interview)

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent and the ability to lift 50 lbs. is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

An Associate's degree in related/relevant area or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 2 years from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Hiring Salary: $25.00 per hour
