Summary

AC Transit is currently recruiting for the position of Electrician. Under general supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, performs skilled electrical work in connection with the installation, maintenance, repair and alteration of electrical systems, machinery, and equipment. Performs other related duties as required.

Representative Functions

  • Maintains, modifies and repairs electrical related District facilities and equipment.
  • Locates and obtains necessary parts; maintains fire alarm systems, entrance/exit gates, exhaust fans, and related equipment.
  • Installs, adjusts, inspects, maintains and repairs electrical lighting, power circuits, fixtures, motors, generating equipment and other related equipment.
  • Orders and obtains supplies and tools used in repair and maintenance.
  • Tests and repairs various types of relays and regulators, fixtures, circuits and motors and related equipment.
  • Cleans and maintains shop area in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Documents tasks on work orders.
  • Builds and maintains positive working relationships with co-workers, other District employees and the public using principles of good customer service.

Minimum Qualifications

Training/Education: Equivalent to completion of 12th grade and the completion of an accredited electrical apprenticeship program.

Experience: Four (4) years experience as a journey level electrician in a large plant or heavy maintenance facility.

Special Requirements: Must be able to handle emergency situations or after-hours work as required.

License/Certification: Must possess a certificate of completion from an accredited electrical apprenticeship program; must possess and maintain a valid California Class C Driver's License and meet the District's driving standards.

Knowledge Of: Theory of electricity; methods, tools and practices of the electrical trade; general purpose test equipment associated with the electrical trade; hazards involved in working around energized lines and equipment; laws, rules and standards pertaining to electrical construction and maintenance; principles and practices of California and local electrical codes, circuits and circuitry load requirements for a variety of equipment, including, but not limited to lock out, OSHA, and local regulations; principles and practices of work safety.

Ability To: Read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics; diagnose causes and devise course of action for repair of non-functioning equipment; work with 480 volt 3 phase electrical circuits; prioritize and organize daily work assignments with documentation on work orders; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; wear required personal protection equipment; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; use a forklift, scissors lift, hand tools, and other equipment and machinery as necessary; climb and use a ladder while installing and maintaining equipment; lift, carry, and move a variety of equipment, tools and supplies; pass heavy lifting physical examination.

Pension: All AC Transit employees participate in a lifetime defined benefit pension. All employees hired on or after January 1, 2020, may be in the District's Tier II pension plan covered by the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA). As such, he/she may be required to contribute a small portion of annual income towards the cost of his/hers District pension.
