JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

University Health Services (UHS), a department within the Division of Student Affairs has an excellent opportunity for a Medical Technologist, for its comprehensive on-campus healthcare resource specializing in outpatient student health including the treatment of medically urgent problems and ongoing health concerns. UHS provides preventive care, education, and resources to help students live a healthy lifestyle.

The Medical Technologist - Pathology is responsible for proper collection, precise testing, and accurate reporting of clinical laboratory specimens. In addition, the Medical Technologist provides consultation to clinicians regarding laboratory analysis and interpretation of results.

  • Conduct laboratory testing and analysis on medical specimens

  • Collect and process specimens, andensure that specimens meet the standards for quality testing

  • Perform testing and review theaccuracy and reliability of results before reporting to a clinician; alert clinicians of abnormal and critical values

  • Responsible for problem identification and resolution with regard to specimen quality, laboratory equipment operation, and laboratory information systems

  • Oversee quality control; perform proficiency testing and participate in various department continuous quality improvement initiatives

  • Perform instrument maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting

  • Maintain professional proficiency and competency in the areas of phlebotomy, hematology, urinalysis, chemistry, microbiology, immunology/serology and microscopy

  • May provide guidance and oversight to staff performing phlebotomy

This position is a 75% FTE and works approximately 9 months a year, including one weekend per month.

This position requires a bachelor's degree or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

This position requires the following clearances: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$61,800.00 - $89,600.00
