Job Summary :

BSN and Indiana RN license required. Position is working two 12-hour shift on Nights. No weekend shifts. Current holiday rotation is one holiday and one hard to staff day per year. Will work in Danville and Brownsburg hospital locations. Eligible for part time benefit package including insurances, PTO, 403(b) with match and more.
Summary: To coordinate nursing care for scheduled shifts that is patient and family centered in an environment that exemplifies best practice and customer service; fosters relationship-based care; and maintains the integrity of professional nursing standards. Nursing care guidelines are based on the ANA Code of Ethics (1), Indiana Nurse Practice Act (2), Nursing Process, and regulatory agency standards by which the RN provides patient care and shared leadership for the unit.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for personnel, management, and coordination of nursing service activities for the scheduled working shift, in accordance with established philosophy, objectives, and policies of the hospital to ensure safe, efficient, and therapeutic patient care. Effectively relates with other shifts for continuity of care and, in the absence of the Unit Director and or VPN, takes charge.

A. Fiscal Responsibility

  • Assumes responsibility for oversight of nursing staffing functions and uses appropriate judgment in arranging/approving final staffing levels, use of additional/overtime hours, EDOs, and notifies management on call of unfilled critical staffing vacancies.
  • Considers budgetary restraints and written director guidance in performance of staffing functions: assigns staff based on competency, acuity, patient's technical needs, call-ins for absence /illness, and departments' needs.
  • Responsibly coordinates distribution of resources and special orders/supplies, and documents activities /rationale for actions throughout the assigned shift.

B. Quality

  • Initiates, maintains and monitors compliance with Emergency Preparedness (after consultation with ED physician and/or Administrator on call), HRH fire and disaster, standard precautions/infection control, hazardous waste flow, and federal/state regulatory standards, OSHA, and HIPPA.
  • Applies organizational guidelines, policies and critical thinking in the performance of daily operational duties and assists associates in decision making.
  • Utilizes bed management system and ensures communication to unit charge, ancillary departments, and management on call for delays to patient flow/care and coordinates emergency surgeries per established guidelines.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement, nursing research/evidence based practice, and documentation and processing of event notification.

C. Patient Satisfaction

  • Rounds on all units twice per shift addressing call light response, HIPPA compliance and noise levels as identified.
  • Coordinates placement of patients based on diagnosis, age gender, and notifies units of admission/transfer with focus on patient experience and wait times.
  • Provides education to patient/family/patient identified others to meet needs and maintains privacy at all times.
  • Intervenes appropriately in issues involving patient distress, identifies an utilizes resources, and initiates service recovery.

D. Patient Safety

  • Responds to and assists with all Codes and rapid response team calls in facility according to established procedures and as defined in policy.
  • Communicates with physicians for significant changes in patient condition or suspected events and obtains/clarifies physician orders, verification of orders, with unresolved issues addressed through chain of command.
  • Documents care given per specific guidelines, performance of IV therapy tasks or unusual occurrences/near misses in the event notification system.
  • Utilizes tools/techniques to improve patient safety and encourages/educates others in safe practice.

E. Professional Growth

  • Practices effective conflict resolution, mentors colleagues in professional conduct interactions, and engages in crucial conversations.
  • Participates in professional organizations, HRH shared leadership/councils, continuing education.
  • Participates in staff meetings, mandatory education, and peer review as assigned.
  • Shows self-direction in identifying educational needs of self and others, obtaining and maintaining relevant certifications, and precepting/mentoring.

F. Customer Service

  • Meets Hospital identified customer service standards, addresses ethical issues, and promotes commitment to co-workers, and champions' inclusion and diversity.
  • Identifies, participates in and/or assumes responsibility for initiatives to improve patient care and resource utilization to result in measurable improvement in patient outcomes.
  • Exhibits excellent guest relations to patients, visitors, physicians and coworkers; shows courtesy, compassion and respect; conforms to Service Excellence requirements. This position requires communication and interaction with the public, co-workers, administrators, contacts from other hospitals, schools and/or other departments.

Education and Experience Required:

1. Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing is required for employment. Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree, (BSN) required.

2. Minimum of 2-5 years hospital experience includes experience in leadership role.

3. Area specific required education may be obtained upon hire and maintained, e.g. ACLS, BLS, PALS.

4. Computer skills required.

Mandatory Licensure/Certifications:

Current licensure by the Indiana State Board of Nurses' Registration and Nursing Education as an active Registered Nurse.
