Location: This position will be on-site full-time in Grand Rapids, MI. The position holder will need to be within commuting distance (within 45 min).

Business Development Manager Summary:

The Business Development Manager is pivotal in driving growth and profitability through strategic market expansion and partnership development. This role involves utilizing and developing resources, identifying new business opportunities, forging strategic alliances, and enhancing the company's market position.

Business Development Manager Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develops and wins new business with MedTech OEM customers and their Tiers. New business targets are single use, polymer-based applications in one of our business segments: Medical Devices, Medical Packaging, and Robotic Assisted Surgery. Programs may be new to the world designs or existing business transfer opportunities.
  • Engages, leverages, and interacts with OEM at multiple levels: Purchasing, Engineering, Operations and C-Suite. Produces funded development projects.
  • Builds and demonstrates value and trust with customers to enable long-term development and commercial relationships.
  • Manages strategic, value based, price actions for a variety of circumstances to achieve sustained profitable growth, in coordination across OEM applications and UFP sites when necessary to improve the book of business. Promotes new technology and CAPEX when appropriate.
  • Collaborates with the Marketing department to enhance messaging, lead generation and increase top of funnel reach outs.
  • Works with and guides development Engineers to develop cost options, business proposals, manage programs, develop customer presentations / work statements and post engagement support for pipeline management to close.
  • Works with and guides five dedicated technology development labs centered around areas of expertise.
  • Works with commercial sales teams to leverage call points at key OEMs. Pursues and leverages "3 legs of stool" business growth: Material position, managed client in growing segment and technical capability to produce success.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned or needed.
Business Development Manager Qualification Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science or Arts or equivalent experience and 5 - 15 years of direct sales experience in MedTech single use product environment.
  • Ability to manage through complexities and competing priorities between peers, sites, suppliers and customers to achieve consistently good outcomes.
  • B to B selling to large medical OEM's as a contract manufacturer.
  • Engineering or technical background a plus.
  • Ability to write and present technical scopes of work for R&D projects for major OEM's
  • Technical experience in flexible polymer materials and processes to make finished medical devices.
  • Experience with foams, film, fabrics, adhesives, RF welding, Thermoforming, and compression molding a plus.
  • Strong closing, prospecting, and sales planning skills.
  • High energy and enthusiasm.
  • Well organized and able to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Strong written and oral skills required.
  • High level leadership skills.
  • Must possess excellent presentation skills.
  • High financial acumen. Can produce pro-forma business cases and analysis of options and models.
  • Computer literacy: Microsoft Office programs - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Role is based in Grand Rapids, MI.
  • Travel requirements based on customer location(s). Estimated 50%.
