Job Description and Duties

Under direction of a Staff Services Manager I, the Public Records Act Redaction Analyst performs the more complex duties by accessing records and files maintained by the Office of Internal Affairs and/or the Office of Legal Affairs. The incumbent reviews and analyzes confidential records and files, and operates software and equipment to redact text, images, speech, sounds, or other types of information. The incumbent responds to and fulfills Public Records Act requests.

Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s).

The California Department of Corrections Rehabilitation (CDCR) Headquarters has implemented a new automated system to streamline the hiring process. The Human Resources Technology System (HRTS) is an intuitive, user-friendly system that provides the applicant access to real-time updates throughout the hiring process. HRTS will require new candidates to set up an account, which allows them to track their application's progress. Through their account portal, candidates will also be able to provide any additional information needed in the hiring process, including setting up interviews as needed. After the final filing date, applicants will receive an email from DoNotReply@cdcr.ns2cloud.com or DoNotReply@CDCR (depending on the email provider), with direction on creating and/or accessing their account.

Working Conditions

The position(s) is eligible for hybrid telework, in accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate a high degree of initiative, professionalism, tact and confidentiality.


  1. Occasional travel required to Department work locations statewide as necessary.
  2. Knowledge of principles, practices and trends of public and business administration, and management and supportive staff services such as budgeting, personnel, and management analysis, government functions and organization and methods and techniques of effective leadership.
  3. Ability to reason logically and creatively and utilize a variety of analytical techniques to resolve complex governmental and managerial problems, develop and evaluate alternatives, analyze data, and present ideas and information effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to consult with and advise administrators or other interested parties on a wide variety of subject-matter areas. Ability to gain and maintain the confidence and cooperation of those contacted during the course of work. Ability to coordinate the work of others, act as a team or conference leader and appear before legislative another committee.
  4. Ability to take technical and legal information and present it to layman clearly and logically. Incumbent must be able to write documents in English and at a high school level and must be able to speak clearly and effectively in a large group setting.
  5. Ability to evaluate situations accurately and take effective action, compile clear and comprehensive reports, deal tactfully with a wide range of inquiries, and apply specific laws, rules and office policies and procedures.
  6. Knowledge of computer, and basic office equipment, hand-held computing devices and scanning/copier equipment.
  7. Demonstrated ability to act independently, maintain open-mindedness and flexibility, tactfully make sound business decisions and willingness to assume leadership during the Staff Services Manager I absence. Ability to communicate technical legal information to various Department staff clearly and concisely.
  8. Ability to learn rapidly, follow directions, communicate effectively with other staff and those contacted in the workplace. Ability to exhibit professional work habits such as punctuality, skill, neatness, and dependability. Ability to make satisfactory progress in a prescribed training program. Ability to interpret written material, edit written material, write effectively, and analyze written and numerical data accurately.
  9. All of the essential functions of the Associate Governmental Program Analyst require reaching, grasping, the repetitive motion of keyboarding, sitting/standing for lengthy periods of time and near acuity viewing ability.
