Job Description

The OR Certified surgical technologist gathers and prepares instruments and equipment for surgical procedures; provides quality and safety to the patient guided by principles of surgical asepsis; anticipates the surgeon's needs at the field; is flexible and works well under ever changing conditions, and is a resource and mentor for surgical technologist new to the OR department and in orientation. The OR Certified surgical technologist scrubs a wide variety of different procedures and has knowledge and skill to adapt to changes in the patient's condition.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school Diploma or GED.
  • Proof of current certification designated as Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) provided through the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Must maintain active certification to retain position.
  • Current BLS and must remain current to retain position
  • Has completed OR department orientation and passed the skills competency tests
  • Ability to stand for the majority of the work time; sometimes wearing a 10 lb. x-ray apron for several hours at a time; lifting 50lbs. pushing/pulling 125lbs.,frequent lifting 1-25 lb. sterile trays during the course of the day.
  • Good communication and written skills.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and changing conditions; flexibility to adapt to scheduling changes and changes in patient condition.
  • Good time management skills and ability to be self-directed.
