Duties and Responsibilities
Job Summary:
We're looking for a talented and energetic Senior HR Manager to join our team at Loyola University, Chicago. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of HR, the Senior HR Manager will manage a team of HR professionals and provide comprehensive HR services on complex employee relations matters, change management, and talent acquisition for university staff.

This position is located on site.

Leadership and Strategy:

* Leads a wide range of human resources duties that includes strategic planning, employee relations, talent acquisition, organizational effectiveness, change and performance management, and coaching for an assigned groups of teams/stakeholders within the University.
* Manages employee relations matters directly. Guides HR Generalist in developing conflict management skills, problem-solving capabilities and employee/management coaching.
* Manages the performance improvement process with business leaders including disciplinary actions, terminations, ethics violations and other workplace issues.
* Serves as an internal expert and provides guidance with regard to state and federal employment and labor laws, and University workforce policies.
* Collaborates and provides input for organizational development, and other strategic initiatives.
* Promote DEI by implementing protocols to ensure recruitment and hiring practices are inclusive.
* Proactively develops, implements, and supports human resources related strategies and guidelines in relation to the organization's mission, objectives, and operational needs.
* Ensure consistent application of policy, processes, and best practices.
* Ability to anticipate employee and situational outcomes and advise management accordingly.
* Lead and participate in special HR projects and initiatives as needed.

Staff Management:
* Manage a team of two HR professionals- the HR Generalist and the HR Specialist, with a dotted line to the student workers.
* Directs, oversees, and manages the work of direct reports by providing supervision, management, and prioritization of tasks, initiatives, and outcomes. Supports staff with mentoring, guidance, job training and career development opportunities, goal setting, and regular performance appraisals.
* Assures that performance expectations are clear and consistent.

Client/Stakeholder Relations:
* Builds and maintains effective relationships with key stakeholders / staff to understand needs and provide strategic human resources support.
* Gathers, assesses, and responds to feedback on HR services from stakeholders, making adjustments as needed.
* Leverages the use of data and HR analytics to help stakeholders
understand their department's people metrics.
* Performs other tasks, as assigned.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years HR management experience.
  • 1-2 year of supervisory experience.

Qualifications

  • Leadership experience including management and leadership of people and proficiency in key functional areas of HR including Employee Relations, Organizational Development, DEIB, Labor Relations, Staffing, HR Project Management, Compensation and HR Analytics.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written communications skills.
  • Exceptional business acumen, judgement, and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated strong business acumen and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to influence across leadership levels and functions within the organization.
  • Exceptional integrity, intelligence, maturity, and successful experience navigating complex organizational settings.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, make sound judgments, handle confidential information, multi-task, and be a creative, energetic problem solver.
  • Proven ability to work effectively across a complex organization with a collaborative and consultative interpersonal work style.
  • Experience in Higher Education or non-profit is preferred.



Certificates/Credentials/Licenses
PHR/ SPHR certification is a plus, but not required.
Computer Skills

  • Familiarity with PeopleAdmin and Lawson preferred.
  • Strong computer software skills, including in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and other HR-related software.
  • Experience with communication platforms including Zoom and/or Microsoft Teams.
