Research Technician

A Laboratory Research Technician in the Department of Biological Sciences. Responsibilities will include animal husbandry, tissue preparations, making solutions, pouring plates, and molecular biology (including, but not limited to cloning and PCR). Technician will be responsible for dissections and cell preparations, as well as experiments on the prepared cells. Must have strong verbal communication skills, be organized, willing to speak and present in lab meeting, and able to handle instructions provided by researchers.


Job Summary

Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.


Essential Functions

Working with fine motor skills for repetitive actions with tubes, small samples and volumes. Ability to sit/stand at research bench as needed to accomplish all tasks. Ability to visually monitor lab and experiments. Ability to communicate clearly about experiments and situations. Ability and willingness to perform animal husbandry and research. Organization and ability to work on a computer are essential to this position.


Physical Effort

Applicant is expected to lift up to 15 lbs (3X per week), have good find motor skills (used daily), and use a step stool (3X per week).
